Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

I am heartbroken to watch my company, and my store fall into oblivion right before my eyes because the almighty dollar is more important

I am losing my position after 15 yrs of service. I have had broken bones, twisted ribs, bumps ,bruising and bleeding at the hands of lowes. And never once turned it in. Paid for it all out of my own pocket. (Didn't want to ruin their safety dinner) i have never been wrote up and have only been late a handful of times due to weather. I did my job as my mother lay in a hospital bed during the last months of her life because i felt guilty i was letting my team down. (I had no back up to take on my tasks) You are lucky you don't watch the podcasts. Yesterday as i sat at my desk covered in rubberized asphalt, because nobody wants to do the dirty work, I heard Marvin Ellison pretty much say my job was a waste of time and money to Lowes. That hurt, that was heartbreaking and sad. I knew he would abolish my position because i heard he did it at home depot and it seems like since he has walked through the door he has played follow the leader with them. But the way he said it. Like my efforts and my sacrifices have meant nothing. Saying "we need to play smarter with our money. Applying it to where it matters." I don't matter, the money i have made you and saved you all these years don't matter. Thanks. But where will the money go? More seasonal employees walking around trying to find a corner to play with their phones? More gum chewing kids cursing and showing eachother videos while a customer has to walk into my restricted area to ask for help? Yeah good idea. I am heartbroken to watch my company, and my store fall into oblivion right before my eyes because the almighty dollar is more important than the customers, the employees, and the integrity we once had. And I really want to know who is going to train the 18 year old ASM's they bring in, because all the knowledgeable tenured employees are leaving or being pushed out. Good luck Ellison but it obvious who you are for. Just remember sir, the LOVE of money is the root of all evil.

OP is @YcHwAvF-16zpo . Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Welcome to America. Money makes this country go round. From top to bottom, it’s all anyone cares about. Gives a whole new meaning to the “Freedom isn’t free” slogan.

Corporations do not value people as anything more than a tool for profit. Corporations will NEVER value people as more than a tool for profit. That's not a bug in the system, it's a key feature.

Hence, the system is dystopian garbage rigged against working people for the benefit of a few rich jerks living off our labor.

Sorry to hear that you're on the receiving end this time. I think a lot of us will be over the next several years. This is what happens when labor doesn't push back. Going forward, don't give employers more than they pay you for. They will only reciprocate if it's to their advantage, but they will always exploit your generosity if they can get away with it.

i love when goofballs down vote something thats 100% fact. good grief go watch the video.....its incredible that more people arent talking about something the ceo said a week and a half ago!

OP was 100% correct. marvin was pretty forthcoming in saying they are scrutinizing how lowes spends money...that they wont eliminate positions without eliminating work (yeah right)....and that HD doesnt spend any money in the stores messing with appliance delivery. he then targeted RTM for the same reduction treatment--to perfectly mirror what HD does.

i dont see anyone else on here, on facebook or on reddit talking about it! pretty good sign the employees have completely tuned him out now. theyre that fed up with him. problem is he routinely makes read between the lines statements that can give you insight into what personal moves you should make. so you essentially have to suffer through. just like when joe announced on his investor call that the new scheduling would be rolled out to the entire company in the 2nd quarter...probably told them before those stores will have found out.

on the flip side to being in delivery for 15 years.....they will continue to hire drivers right up until they all get laid off. who knows....it could be weeks or months away and people will take these jobs thinking their life should be stable for awhile...only to get laid off. if employment law is lacking in one major way its when these corporations know theyre eliminating a position but will hire people anyway. corporations should be forced to pay 6 months severance to individuals they sign on to jobs in BAD FAITH that the job will soon be eliminated in less than 6 months. fine you still need the work to be done up until the last day.....you should then be forced to give a massive safety net to those people---many of whom left jobs that theyd otherwise still be at.

i assume they are talking about appliance delivery

meeting was ended by talking about how HD has no appliances in their backroom...all held by supplier. lowes spends payroll stocking appliances...loading them...delivering them. will all go to central deliver for appliances and take that payroll cost out of the stores.

next he talked about RTM and how it compares to home depot......says its too task intensive....."technology" will replace RTM.

until the ants rise up and realize their numbers...the grasshoppers will always steal their labors. the grasshopper merely looks scary...but they are small in number. the ants number in the billions--its time to realize our collective might and demand change. marvin just the other day knowing all of his insider information bought stock at its lowest...he will profit big time once he makes moves to cause wall street to rejoice. niblock did this every single year.

OP what a sad, but truthful reality. alot of us feel this same way....too scared or too loyal to take off work because we either are fearful for our job being taken from us or dont want to let down other hard working coworkers. And we all know those at the top take every last penny they can take. its all take take take for them.....always 1 rule for us and another rule for them.

A bugs Life. a children's movie. one of my favorites because of the message.

What is/was your job? Asking so others in your position know to look out for cuts.

I quit in February. Was a PSE for ten years. I quit after they took my coordinator away and eliminated psi. Marvin had a podcast to deal with that too.

I think in retrospect what bothered me the most was how he wraps it all in God. Like he’s a Christian warrior doing God’s work. He’s a prosperity Christian, aka not one at all. He only gives when he expects a return. He believes his power is given to him based on his works.

Leave cause it’s going to get bad. All the things you worry about losing are going to be taken anyway.

Your work ethic is YOUR value. Dont give it to anyone not worthy of it. You learned a lesson here, and you will discover it many more times forward.
