Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

How big exactly is the workforce reduction in the US?

Not that it matters to anyone that has already been affected or the folks waiting in line to get cut, but I’m really curious to know how much less workers will Honeywell have in the States after all this is over. Any way we can come up with a number or maybe a percentage?

Reduction in US will never be big enough as long as the number of domestic engrs is greater than one.

Engr labor is one big, of not the biggest, cost component for P&L. Therefore reduction is another tool for mgmt to 'improve' bottom line

There is no turning back now

Well, as something to think about, the 34th street Engines site (with all the mfg that went on across the tracks) employed most of 10K employees in 1980. After that, the Tempe facility was built, which moved a significant number of people, but the real changes came later, when Bangalore came into play, then HCMO, then HAO, then Puerto Rico, and then Mexicali (not necessarily in that order). My guess is that there are 1000-2000 people employed by Honeywell Engines in Maricopa county these days, and the goal is to reduce that by another 90% over the next few years.

Let's all hide and watch.

I think about 9/10ths of 50,000 employees over the next 10 years. So only a small number of workers and the bulk of management. Everyone else, off-shored or outsourced.

Two-thirds of PSE was cut in 2018. There would have been more however government contracts required some of work to be done in States. Using that as a guideline, when the dust settles you may see only a small portion of jobs remaining in the states. I’ve heard the goal is to move everything that can be moved out of the U.S. over that next several years. Hiring now in U.S. only when the job must be done there. Writing is on the wall and I’m not sure why anyone under 40 is still hanging on thinking it is going to get better.

I do not think it is possible to come up with a percentage or final count. As US heads are cut, and jobs transferred to India and China, Honeywell will continue to buy up other companies and continue the process. So the US head count will fluctuate with time as acquisitions and resulting job cuts continue.
