Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Hell on wheels

I dont know how it is at your yard, but in West Colton the bad orders are down by almost 75%. There being reprimanded if they take longer than 30 seconds to inspect a car. There trying to make the Carman position obsolete. Its only a matter of time before contractors come in or they show proof to the FRA that these cars can go an extra 1000 miles before an inspection is necessary. Does anyone see this or all you all blind and drank to much UP koolaid? Maybe discuss issue with whatevers left of your union and see what you can do to justify your jobs. I have worked all over the system and made friends with alot of Carman and most if not all your craft will be out on your a-- in a few years. Guarenteed. Contact the FRA or anyone who will listen, tell them UP needs you guys, i mean who else can sit on there nuts for 5 hours a day and then complain about the three hours of actual work they have to do. And lets be real, its meaningless. HIGHBALL yourself into the unemployment line.

It is HELL ON WHEELS.

I’m an electrician for the mechanical department in Roseville Ca.

We have been hit hard. After over 13 years there building seniority,

I went from over 30 people under me. Now I have 8!

I don’t know how they expect to get locomotives over the California Sierra !heading east without electricians!

PTC needs electricians.

It seems the bean counters only care about the stock holders.

What it looks like on paper.

I know I’m simplifying it. I just belive that’s their bottom line.

The new regime in power is destroying peoples lives.

This is not the company we work for when Young was in charge,

Or anyone before him.

It’s a sad day for Railroaders indeed.

They were making record profits before the Lay Offs started,

This is pure greed at a level I’ve never experienced or seen before.

Our unions don’t seem to have any power at all anymore...

Honestly I think the upper union officials are being paid off

to give UPRR what they want.

I’ve seen the executive train pull through our yard with our union officials every time a contract is in negotiation. They drag out our contracts if we don’t agree,

the last time It was like three years.

Then we got a letter from our union president telling us to settle because the next offer will be worse!

I want to know how much he was paid to send that letter!

California has a higher cost of living than most, so we fight harder because we can’t afford not to!

Still we are a minority across the UP system.

We don’t get regional pay

So when we declined the contract they basically said mojority rules.

Our vote didn’t count.

I don’t think I’ve had a real real raise in 10 years. Every time we get a raise

our healthcare increases

So it’s been a wash.

UPRR hates us. We are just a necessary evil to their pocket book,

God help the people that really do,the work and

keep America going...RIght?

All you Carmen, that still have jobs. Please listen the company doesn't care about this craft or if any. It doesn't matter if you have 300 Bo's or 2. The hardest working guys or the laziest. If I was in your shoes I would definitely look for another job. Until then do as little as posible. No matter what you do, will save Your jobs.
