It is well known that the railroad business is ruthless by nature. It always has been. Just look at how the railroad acquired land and built their physical infrastructure (by genocide and indentured labor).
Now think about the extremely sanguinary relationship the railroad had with organized labor from the 1890s through the 1920s. Look up "Grover Cleveland breaks railroad strike" for a good example.
Fast forward to the present day. The railroad hasn't changed, but their tools and methods have. Anyone who doesn't know how dirty, duplicitous, litigious, and bureaucratic the railroad is, is either uninformed or in denial.
