Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Everything will be back to normal soon

Everything will be back to normal soon - just as it did in 2008. Honestly I think PD could eliminate another 15% (or more) with minimal loss in performance. There is so much fat/waste at Ford. Walk up and down the aisles in PDC - people are daytrading (especially old finance guys) and surfing the net all day.

If you were to really think about your workday - being honest - perhaps you worked 2 productive hours every day? My last job was more like 1 hour per day. Working at Ford is easy money.

It may be a rude awaking for those forced to work outside of Ford - less pay and more real work required!

Go ahead - tell me why I am wrong.

I do wish the best of luck to those who were let go and those that remain.

Under my supervisor out of 14 people two put in a full day’s work. The rest can be found surfing the web, gossiping, socializing and walking at least six hours a day. One guy has “worked from home” most days of the but he is clearly not on his laptop those days. One guy claims he comes into work at 4 am and so he leaves at noon. We know he arrives at 6:45 15 minutes before the LL5. One guy starts work at noon and claims he works until 8 pm. He leaves 15 minutes after LL6 at 5:30. One guy charges 8 hours of fake OT every weekend. My supervisor sleeps or reads novels in his cube all day.

In the redesign we lost out Tech Spec LL6. He worked 65 hours a week. Being one of the 2/14 who put in a full day’s work, it was most concerning as why were we getting rid of the best people and keeping the slugs? Do I need to become a slug to survive at Ford? Do I want to become what I despise?

this is the new Normal Didn't they say 20% were going to be laid off? by my math Ford being made up of 200,000 people, that number comes to 40,000 people.... they haven't even Dented it

Couldn’t agree more. I don’t work in the North American office. I have worked/travelled to many offices around the world. You have so many people surfing the web, shopping on line (China teams look like they are running business lol), India are asleep always etc. I think another 20% cut, and you still wont find it will effect the day to day operations of the company. Though this time they should get rid of the dead wood first.

Furthermore, everyone has gotten so soft/spoiled that when they are asked to do a couple of things they complain endlessly about how swamped they are.

Ford truly is a country club!! Enjoy it while you can. The company will either get smart about realistic headcount or fail. The current situation is not sustainable.

You are right. I work in PD and know a slug who has admitted to watching entire TV Series such as Breaking Bad and many, many more series all the while they were on the clock. And oh not just straight time either. One of the biggest offenders typically gets 400 - 500 hours of overtime a year.

Many more as well.
