Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

forklift license mandatory rule from "Home office"?

We've been on block scheduling since March. At that time we we're told only new hires for morning and evening stockers would be manadatory. Now they are saying it is mandatory for everyone on the floor. We've been given a form to date and sign that was printed from the wire stating our job requirements, but getting a forklift license is not mentioned. However we we're told while reading this paper that it is a requirement and If we don't do it we have 30 days to find a new position.

Something isn't adding up.

What's happening in your clubs?

I was hired as a forklift operator. Also have experience with Home Depot forklifts-sit down and stand up reach lift.
So, I was hired by a Sam’s manager due to my experience. Upon my first two weeks he disappeared…!
Since then I have been cocked blocked by a lead and this lame green vested person. The two are besties. This has been going on for about 3.5 months. Then we get a new merch manager and he tells me that I have not been pulling my weight as a stock person. Of course he is besties with the above id--ts.
I didn’t apply to be stock person and yet they are using this excuse not to certify me!?!?
I don’t even have stock or merchandise in my application!!!!
I was asked to help them out and get some lift exposure and then get certified. Should have just been certified. But have you ever heard of these hoops!???

Not all fresh departments fall into the non forklift driving associates. We are opposite in my club. All produce associates are licensed and all but one of my associates in my meat department are licensed ( 1 isn't because he doesn't have a driver's license ). We only have 5 floor associates certified. Very frustrating. You are asked to drive and are on it for an hour, then get reprimanded because you work in a production area and are now behind.

What if I cannot physically fit in a forklift. They cannot discriminate based on a disability.

You all realize that we are not union right? They can do whatever they want, enforce whatever they want and make us get certified whenever they want. Read what "at will" means.....

All associates should be forklift certified in my opinion, or at least one or two in each department. Nothing more annoying then when you're trying to get stuff done and non forklift driving people want you to stop everything because they need an item dropped for their area. I'm looking at you fresh.

It's not mandatory if it's not stated in your job description under essential job functions.

Team Leads should be mandatory forklift certified. With the exception of Membership and front end leads, literally every lead will need a pallet dropped at some point in their day.

"Not mandatory AT All! Call home office ethics hotline on whatever manager is telling you that it’s mandatory. Same goes with electric jack and cart pusher."

I guess nothing is mandatory as long as you don't want a job.

So you can learn how to frost a cake and get a raise, but not for driving a lift? What gives?

If I am not mistaken they want 4 forklift drivers per shift so the more drivers they get the better coverage they have . Not everyone can drive a lift and shouldn't.

Can we get a round of applause for the ding dong telling us to "get a life" and yet still checks the Sam's Club gossip page after they have left the company?

Do you remember when they paid extra $$ to be a forklift operator? Maybe they should pay .50 cents more per hour. I bet they wouldn`t have a problem getting drivers.

If you are on the floor you should know how to operate a lift. Why should everyone else on the floor but you be required to operate a lift but you. Im sure they can make room for you out in the hot weather pushing carts.

It's part of your job now. People always b--ch about the driver not doing anything but staying on the lift, but ask them to get a lift license and they tuck tail and run. Driving lift s---s but now we need everyone on them to cover click and pull, dropping, and receiving especially through vacation season. Adapt with the needs of the business or get left behind. {No severance}
