Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

No way to win

I am a manager. I am routinely forced to rate people as BE. I am routinely forced to change my comments to be more negative. It’s not a good company to work for.

Thank you for saying this. At least it's good to have a confirmation that no matter how well we do, it might not be enough. But at least we know it's not us.

You most likely will be laidoff before getting BE again. Have a gameplan and don't be shocked when you get the call to a meeting room. There is nothing you can do, someone above made an assessment and they deemed you expendable. Hopefully not but that's exactly what happened to me in January. Not one bad thing was stated in my review, yet I was BE. Our department was already shorthanded and I thought I was safe. Good luck, there are much better places to work for out there, I'm much more happier now at my new employment.

wow! Just wow. I was marked BE the year before last(2017). I fought and fought for feedback. I even provided/ attached documentation showing that all of my work was done without error and before/ on the deadline. I refused to sign it for months! My director told me that I would still get the raggedy merit raise and it wouldn’t happen again. That’s how I knew I didn’t deserve that rating and something was up. I told them it wasn’t about the money but about how I cared about my quality of work I was producing. My director literally told me to let it go and that it wouldn’t happen again. I got recognized four times last year (2018). Makes me wonder if they were trying to make up for giving me a rating I didn’t deserve.

What happens when too many people get let go, that people with EE rating get forced to arbitrarily become BE because no one else is left?

I was marked BE last year. Never in my 25 years had a be. My manager strongly stayed I was not BE. but was forced on my manager. Now what happens if I get BE again?

If you are forced to falsify a performance review, better get the advice of a lawyer.

If the employee sues the company, BNY will probably blame it on YOU and you sure don’t want a hefty civil suit to further ruin your life.
