after having been rated BE and laid off? My ex-team is so short handed now, apparently they’re looking to hire a new person. I’m trying to learn if there’s anyone out there who was given back their old job.

I was let go in January and don’t know of anyone who was rehired. I am very glad to have moved on and am in the process of forming my own business and being self-employed. NYS unemployment offers a great program to help in starting a business and you don’t need to keep applying for jobs.
I was let go in January and I applied to a bunch of positions. I even had my manager assisting me and I didn't even get an interview. I'm at a much better place now and thankful I didn't end up back at BNYM. I asked an HR rep if laidoff employees were being excluded for rehire or if there was a waiting period before being hired back and they indicated there was no restrictions. I just think hiring managers didn't want to bring someone back who had been laidoff for fear they might have a bad attitude towards the company. I'd recommend staying away from BNYM, I'm happy I've moved on.
I know a few people who were let go in January and got rehired back. I personally would look for something else. Best of luck
Let it go! They do not give a flying f**k about you or your short handed team. Your team would not be short-handed if it was a favored function. We all know lots of dead weight that could be chopped if it was a rational company. Walk with your head held high knowing they will bleep you again at the first opportunity.
