Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Landline

The folks that use the term landline are out of touch. Cell phone hits the nearest tower. Wire from there. Home, business internet, phone, hi-cap. Wire, wire, wire.... Fiber or copper there is all the same maintenance and provisioning.

The country runs on the network. It’s just that simple. Sure there is competition but VZ still has an extensive profitable network with tens of millions of dedicated paying customers. The US government being one.

So if you mean traditional telephone service you’re right. The network has and is evolving and if you think VZ doesn’t want it.... Amazon, Google or Apple does.

@1uou, when you presume to speak on behalf of Google and Apple, are you speaking from the point of view of their tech employees, or their C-suite executives?

Wireline employees are not allowed to access WIRELESS employee profiles in VZWEB. All you see is a message indicating this restriction.

Nuff said.

Cool story bro! You know what C-apple and Google really don't want? A union workforce. Maybe the overpaid, lazy government sector.

@wvk What kind of fantasy world do you live in? We will never be One Verizon. Anyone who has been around for the last 15 or so years knows the deep rooted animosity between the wireless and wireline Verizons. Don't you read the posts on this page from the wireless side? Wireless hates Wireline because they don't understand the phone business. This company is broken and Verizon leadership is responsible for the huge divide between the two. Don't give me that BS about being One Verizon when wireless is putting new equipment in cages in wireline central offices and buying dark fiber. Oh. Sorry. Did I lose you again? Too technical?

Give it up on this tireless documentation of the two companies. Remember we are One Verizon and the sooner you start thinking that way it will allow the company to move forward. This endless chatter is just that GIVE IT UP !!!

Every "wireless transmission" hits landline somewhere.

I agree completely with the OP. The Network has everything from old legacy analog equipment and copper, to the FiOS and next generation ethernet muxes and everything in between. They're all in the same building right next to each another. Everything is connected because it's a NETWORK. And the "Landline" employees are the ones who make it work. The term "landline" used to mean everything that wasn't part of Verizon Wireless. Verizon started using it in a derogatory way a few years ago during collective bargaining with the unions., publicly trying to make the case that the "landline" workers were dinosaurs that didn't deserve a raise and weren't needed anymore because of wireless. Nothing could be further from the truth.
