Heald's Milpitas Campus is next to Elmwood Correctional Facility where the misdeamenors and minor felonies reside. The Milpitas Heald recruits among the Elmwood residents to sell the educational opportunities offered by Heald. The criminal justice program is stuffed with former and even current residents of Elmwood. When you tell the administration that criminal convictions almost always result in the total inability of a criminal justice career then you get the response "The employability or lack thereof is not our concern. That will be a concern for the next quarter. We are getting the student loan dollars and even though the majority of the students will only be here for a quarter or two, at least we are getting some money".
The sheriff will often visit Heald in Milpitas to pick up a criminal justice student with an outstanding bench warrant. Even more comical is when one of the Heald criminal justice students was asked at a sentencing hearing for a minor charge about his profession gave the court the response "I am a student in criminal justice at Heald College" which got the court's response "Well you certainly have enough experience with the criminal justice system from the inside"
