The enrollment numbers for the upcoming July 2012 quarter are now out and the numbers are about 20% lower than those from July 2011. No one at Heald will publicly talk about the loss of Cal Grants and CCI is taking the attitude that the loss of Cal Grants is no big deal. Clearly the loss of Cal Grants is a BIG deal. The big question at CCI is to decide whether it is worth the investment to start a BSN degree in nursing at Fresno, CA when entire graduating classes of RNs from Northern California community colleges can't find jobs along with that Fresno State University has an ESTABLISHED nursing program. Starting a nursing program is a pretty expensive proposition and CCI administrators are NOT convinced that it is worth the cost. The administrators at Heald are pushing for the nursing program but the CCI bean counters have serious doubts. Even the BS business programs which are minimal in cost are likely to be dubious investments as a business degree unless it is from Berkeley or Stanford is not worth much in Northern California. Business degrees from the CSU system are a dime a dozen with vast number of those holding such degrees being unemployed.
