This is just my experience with Everest but I worked at a ground campus at Everest back in 2009 to 2011. I remember our department director rarely approved any employee vacation. Also many employees feared their children getting sick and missing many parent events at their children school because of the lack of understanding and fear of getting fired. Strange, since the entire department was made of women and everyone was a mother or some form of caretaker. After I was assaulted by a fellow employee and that person was never disciplined. I was glad to be out! I suffered a death of a very close relative who I cared for hand and foot until her dying day. Call my fellow employees from the hospital in the middle of the night to notify that I could not go to work. Who the hell does that? In what world does a 3-day bereavement mean “vacation”. Everest World that’s where. Word of advice for anyone in the for-profit education industry- just leave. It’s just not worth the humiliation to be associated with the industry.
At Everest, I saw an 80 year old man who started class, who never used a computer before, didn’t even know what an email was for but he started and then dropped out after a few months. We had a fellow employee fill out federal application for a student who didn’t even know how to READ, and had to be dropped once it all came to light. I saw employees forge signatures on student forms. Admission reps would mislead prospects all the time. One minute the financial aid department were the” know all guru’s” and when the numbers didn’t please the prospects an admission rep would claim the numbers weren’t official until they completed the “packaging” process. The numbers never changed- lead to many no shows. They had admission managers and directors sit outside financial aid cubicles and listen to what and how they explain federal aid. Then report back on things they knew nothing about.
Education at any school must be viewed as is… What you put in to it is what you are going to get out of it. Yes, there have been success stories in the for-profit industry and I’m sure those people are forever grateful but for those who are unemployed and in debt…sad.
