I have lived through the dark days of the merger of Sperry Corp. with Burroughs Corp. aka the beginning of Unisys, and those are the last layoffs I have seen since that settled down. Then the company started adding people without regard to whether or not the position could be filled within. CSW's big problem has always been the poorest of management at the very top. In fact, until Val was put in as president, there wasn't any leadership, because Susan was responsible for all of CSG. She was just spread too thin. That allowed each fiefdom (aka Vice President) to pad his/her payroll, without any oversight as to what it would do to the company as a whole. We wouldn't be in the pickle we're in today if management had held back on the overhiring by the boat loads. Me and one of my co-workers have been shaking our heads for the last 5 years saying, "This is not good. This is going to come back to haunt us eventually". Well, the ghosts of sins past are now here. What should happen first is that 25% of management should be shown the door, and at least one entire level cut. That would be a smart start.
