Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Ok lets face some facts.

  1. According to what has been reported online is significantly more profitable than onground (ALL THINGS CONSIDERED)

  2. The difference in retention between online and on-ground does not justify keeping on-ground

  3. Some states mandate on-ground campuses to have online

  4. The Apollo Group is a business. It's number one concern is maximizing profits for the shareholders. Apollo is not a non-profit.

Assuming these are correct the only logical course of action any first year business student would propose would be to slowly kill as many ground campuses as possible while keeping the minimum number in states that mandate an on-ground presence.

Look higher education is now a business, whether University of Georgia or University of Phoenix. The only difference is Georgia gets tax breaks and a little state funding. If UOP, long term, does not go non-profit it will have to go online only due to the pressures in the market. This is not 15 years ago when UOP was the only adult education game in town online or on-ground. People saw the money they could make and the market is very crowded now, UOP has to change or it will not be in the game long term. The people at the top see that and are doing what is necessary, so they and stock holder make money. If you can't accept that fact then your not seeing the big picture. Good Luck!
