Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

As Chesapeake consolidates to a more Anadarko like model, people are being displaced

As Chesapeake consolidates to a more Anadarko like model, people are being displaced. Chesapeake had around 10-13 separate units which are now consolidated down to 6-7 depending on what you call a unit. As a result, at the VP level or higher there was/is expected to be around a 40% consolidation of positions. Additionally anyone that was seen or known to be loyal to AKM was likely to explore other options. While this is a necessary part of business, the handling of this process has contributed to an overall level of lower productivity and resulted in higher safety risks for field personnel as they will likely be distracted at doing their job, maintenance, or even while driving down the highway. It would be more effective to say, layoffs will be every other Friday, etc. that way you get some sense of normalcy in between. AKM was a great man for Oklahoma who routinely loaned CHK money out of his own pocket at significantly below typical public market bond rates, ie loaning money at 1% vs borrowing publicly at 7%. Some would equate this to betting on your own team in sports. AKM had his short comings but in the end he produced 1000's of jobs for OKC and the country and I wish him, AEP, and CHK all the best in the future. God bless you all.
