Jobs on Campus/Survival Tips

Anon3030 has a great point. I'm still in a store but I'm looking like most. Early word is sales have been very bad across the company for those through rush this week. If you aren't doing it already build relationships on campus as fast as you can. The 3WM can wait a day or two! Our skill sets transfer well into Financial Aid, Logistics, Business Office and Student Services offices. Don't be conservative! Give the house away in your donation and meals and entertainment budget especially if you have no chance at a bonus. I've given all my markdowns, damaged, donations dollars and everything I could legitimately do so far this year to damn near every department on campus. I'm now known on campus as the go to person for on campus event donations and so forth. In December the University President sent me a hand written thank you note for sponsoring their Christmas Party! Donations work folks! Also don't downplay making friends with the janitors. You would be very surprised how much they know about the campus and the ears they can access! A soda out of your pocket to one of those guys or gals can open some serious doors.

A few tips: DO NOT HOLD ONTO HOURS. They will be re-forecasting the entire company by the first week of February. Use every hour you have available now to survive your rush. Also, if you need supplies and so forth get it ordered now as they will be pretty much blocking the ability to buy anything shortly. Legally they have to pay you your vacation in a layoff but not personal days and sick so use them if you can :)

Take care of your people and they will take care of you. Your people are your greatest asset. Lost words..
