Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Our part time students are walking out!

Do any of our VP’s actually understand the dynamics of a college bookstore?

Our part time student employees are not your typical part time employees. We offer them minimum wage, flexible work schedule and a small discount. The job they do is not their priority their education is. On average our students stay with us less than 2 years. Few have little if any interest in learning more than the basics. Most have a few hours between classes and figure working at the bookstore is convenient and they can make a few bucks. The students want to work their 10 hours a week, graduate and get out. As I was told by 3 of our part time student workers just before they walked out, “ Follett does not pay us enough to be stressed out, yelled at and made to feel stupid because we can’t and won’t do the job that the laid off managers did. That’s not our problem it’s Follett’s.” I fully expect more of our students to walk out before Rush is over. Yes I’m working on my resume.
