Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Update since leaving Follett

I was laid off in October as part of the 50+ IT layoffs. I had been with Follett for approximately 10 years and made some good friends in IT.

I found a new job in about 30 days after several interviews. I really enjoy my new job and the company really respects IT and our contributions to the business. The timelines are reasonable and there are adequate resources to meet the deliverables. I can participate in AWA after six months, there is a bonus plan and also stock options. They say the raises average 5% or more but time will tell.

I wish I had known what other IT jobs at other companies were like becuase I would have left much sooner on my own. You kind of get in a rut and stay because you are scared to look elsewhere. Follett IT rarely got the respect it deserved prior to the arrival of the new president/CIO's and it got significantly worse in the six months I was there after new the leadership.

I look back and realize what I missed out on getting between 1%-2% increases each year. The bonus was nice initially but even that tailed off and will likely be nothing this year....can't have sales go down 6% per rush and expect a bonus. When will the next bonus be? What is your max increase this year 2%?

Do yourself a favor and look at what other opportunities are out there. You might be surprised and decide to make a move before you are laid off too. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain and you will avoid all the bad feelings you get when you are laid off. Unless you have been there forever, the severance amount is not significant and not a reason to stay around. I respect the skills of fellow Follett IT employees and you will see that other companies do as well. "Geben Sie ihnen die Hölle"
