All this - and yet, there are over 500 positions still advertised externally (go to the careers page of our external website and simply click on 'search' with no criteria chosen). Many of these roles look like they could be filled by folks with skills on here that have been laid off. No thought for people & their lives. Farce.

Indeed most of those roles are not actually being recruited at the moment. Recruiters have been told they are not being filled...but certainly there is an expectation by the requisition creators that they will be able to hire for the positions later in the year after the executive leadership has fooled the market into believing they have the company headed on the right path.
As for this being a right to work state...so what?!!! The point is that they don't care about their employees in the least and will dispose of them with complete disregard for their actions. For some employees the commitment is more than just day to day in exchange for a check. This is obviously a foolish arrangement when you are working for a company like Weatherford, but many reputable companies make genuine efforts to not dismiss their employees with such reckless abandon.
Yes, there's nothing like being laid off and finding your position listed a few days later. I'm in Houston and Texas is a Right to Work state, so they don't really have to give you a reason to cut you. We are very lucky to get severance. That's completely up to the individual company. They don't have to give you squat.
On hold or not, it's insensitive to the people being laid off. Should we be surprised?
There is a hiring freeze so those jobs can't be filled right now.
There was a hiring freeze put in place last Monday. From my understanding it's still in place.
Aside from a select few departments, there is a hiring freeze. Those open positions will just stay open until that is lifted. Sometime later this year.
Yep. Some vacancies are for the very same BU's that look like laying off. Not sure whether this just needs updated or whether they are real. Either could be true I suppose. BTW: The 500 vacancies is just the limit of the search results the system can display at one time. Could be more.
