Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Mini Mary Lee

It's not a coincidence most of the recent hires and those promoted are white women.

9283, yeah, they needed to take the heat off Sterling someway, somehow.

The WBC (World Boxing Council) has decided to suspend Adrien Broner following the racist remarks that he made on Saturday night following his victory over Carlos Molina in the undercard of the Mayweather vs. Maidana event.

Agree with the last post, the prejudice I have witnessed was age. And they have no direction now and no real handle on anything, that's what happens with no experience.

Because the tonnage of self-ignorance contained within the posts are terrifying.

In all candor, the only prejudice I've personally witnessed was age. There is no way to target experience without targeting age. Of course the real target is salary. They wanted to shed as much monthly payroll as possible. Follett has built a business on front loading costs (acquiring stores) and then running cheap to make back the investment. November's layoff was exactly that. They paid (allegedly) severance up front (that's a one time check), in exchange for lower monthly operating costs.

Again, the target is age.

Going back to the questions regarding prejudice; what can one infer when you only see young people in a business? One can safely infer a level of prejudice against an experienced work staff.

In the field, that describes today's Follett to a T (Mary Lee)!

Please elaborate. How can one infer a general characteristic like trash littered streets and apply it to an individual without prejudice being involved. Please provide a single example. The inference may be positive or negative. It's your choice.

The question about garbage is only important if you associate the behavior with an ethnic, gender, religious, economic group. If you simply believe poor people are slobs, that is prejudicial. There are some sloppy poor people and there are some neat poor people.

Prejudice is you thinking you know about a person simply because they belong to a group.

The only inference you can draw after seeing garbage on a street is there is garbage on the street. Any other inference is prejudice.

Bigots act on their prejudice.

"But why is it in poor urban communities people throw their garbage on the ground and not a garbage can. Could never understand this." You are lucky not to be able to understand this: 1) Some of poor can not afford garbage pickup and if they can they can't afford "special" pickups 2) These areas have a higher percentage of homeless living there that don't own a garbage can, many homeless since they were kicked out of hospitals that were closed down are mentally ill 3) Those areas often times have a higher unemployment rate and across the globe higher unemployed areas have higher alcohol and drug (prescription and street) abuse 4) Some people just don't about the environment and shame on them 5) Those poor communities are probably suffering form not enough money to keep up with human services or they are corrupt and the politicians are pocketing the money.

Maybe some feel hopeless. It goes back to what someone posted earlier related to mentalities. I also agree with another post on the board related to a different topic; it could very well be the end result of attempting to mentally break a group of people down. It is up to those people to reverse the curse and build towards sustainable communities.

So do I and probably I little more than you would have guessed. My nephew is Black Americans and Caucasian, five grandchildren Black Americans and Caucasian and I have heard the conversations, the accusations, the excuses! I am also a women who has been battered. So what I should say all men are beaters or women haters? No. At some point some generation has to stand and say it stops HERE. I love them all. But I tell them don't use excuses be an example, it's up to you. Everybody has dealt with someone type of what could be categorized as discrimination. If it were back in the 50's yes I would agree, if you were a Jew in the early 1940's in Germany or Poland yes I would agree. Not now in America, and it's HARMFUL to raise the kids that way. We have a black President who started his campaign started over twenty years in Chicago if he could do it no reason others can't! No is stopping anyone one else except themselves sure they may come across some haters, WE all do, but I don't lump everyone together people are individuals.

I don't think anyone here called names aside from those that don't agree with you being called racists. I am in an interracial marriage, I understand it from both sides. Trust me, I have been through it all as a result of marrying someone from a different race.

The TRUTH sets people FREE, false thinking or perceptions is what keeps people having to live within their own created walls, which is sad and not only affects themselves but their families, communities, and the society the live in. Enjoy freedom, it's America's greatest gift and it wasn't cheap, it was very expensive. Throw it away if you like, YOUR choice, no one else is keeping people from embarrassing it. If your are not grateful for it know that many people are. I won't call you names all I ask is don't call me or other names when you don't know what is in our hearts and minds.

Yes people do have a right to their opinion absolutely. But when their opinion goes as far as an accusation against others and a very hurtful and rude one I might add, don't be surprised if the accused asks for some viable evidence. You seem to think calling people racists is okay, what's the big deal. All I did was call you racists, so what why are you getting offended? Well if that's your opinion on how YOU can call and degrade other people why get offended when ONE person states their opinion, which is obviously not the normal consensus of over 98% of population. Are you at least watching the news, he is gone, bye bye for what he said, maybe the same should apply to you. Or is double standards here?

You re the racists. There is name for it now "reverse racism". An it appears you'll use anything to back argument for example, like an 80 year old fool, dating and half Hispanic half Black gold digging escort women that when she found out HIS wife was going to try and get back some millions plus cars and condos this fool spent on her she accuses him as a racists, after years of playing arm candy and taking his money. If this is your basis for calling the rest of all baby boomers racists, enough said. I think this is why the rest are not putting a lot of stock or offense in your accusations. Make a well thought out educated, investigated current argument and back it up before posting accusations against others if you are right it shouldn't be hard.

Whatever the case, it still exists. This poster had a right to vent on this board, so do others. Racism is alive and well, especially in these corporations where minorities are not as nearly promoted as others.

I think everyone agrees and found what Donald Sterling said repudiate and appalling. Please get your facts straight though he is 80 years old, NOT a baby boomer who are those born those born between 1946 and 1964. Donald Sterling was born in 1934. You are off by more then a decade. You basically are supporting the argument by your post. It's getting very old.

Baby boomer mentality clearly exists in both the accuser and ones being accused. Donald Sterling's stunt was very timely. Remember, baby boomers still run these corporations.

I agree with your statements. The fact when someone says I'm not getting what others get because I'm being "grouped" are the ones separating themselves from being part of America, and as many are saying those are the racists, we are all Americans. So many Americans are sick and tired and hurt by being called a racist when we are NOT. Hence the term "calling the card" which should be given a new name the Joker Card, because it's a joke now.

If you think "they" are separating from "us" or they are taking what used to be ours, you may be racist. You can't assume you know anything about someone due to their race, gender, religion, sexuality. Whatever you project on someone because of how you perceive their "group" and how that "group" relates to you and your "group" is prejudice. It is that simple.

I am alarmed at how many posts suggest "they" are pulling a card and "they" are causing a problem.

Wrestling with how you see yourself in society isn't easy, but it needs to be done.

My comment was deleted. I did mention I was Hispanic and felt if we had more Hispanic leadership, I'd have a better chance. That could be untrue, but, it was my opinion. Clearly, I am not the only one who has made such observations. I personally am not a racist and think some of the other comments went too far. It was a mere observation that was voiced on this board.

Whatever is happening in an office in the north west suburbs of Chicago please look at a larger picture, especially those who want to be promoted.

I am not going to tell my race or gender, I will tell you I have been affected by haters. You want stats, deaths by hopelessness, are young are being taught to have no hope, why because they are a part of a certain ethnic or gender group. They are being taught by the people around them, their parents, cousins, neighbors that just because of who ever they are they have no hope. Until those people around them realize the affects THEY are having one people and people can rise above their circumstances like so many others have done, physical handicaps for example, every time you say it's because I am this or that and everyone is against YOU are teaching YOUR children and communities to hate, and look at what is happening. You are educated check it out.
