Thread regarding Follett layoffs

racism at follett??

This week within an FHEG finance department an individual who has used a racisl slur was promoted to supervisor. Is this the talent Follett wishes to promote their company? What message is Follett trying to send?! Not only does this person not have a college degree, which was a requirement, but has had multiple HR issues. Let's put them in a position of authority. Follett has had so much negative press, can they really afford more?

I heard who was promoted and I can see that it's probably true...and someone else validated how she was too.

If you want to know if the post is valid just ask the person and she will tell you herself that it was true. She has never denied saying any of the accusations against her and has each time even put on a "crying apology" show, but then turn right around and makes another comment about black people. She is beneath a supervisor position at Follett and is even beneath a position period! But given the nature of Follett no one should be surprised the person who was outward about "blacks" advances. But if you all look into the AP department at Follett who is located in aurora and look at the person (female) who has the most recent promotion to the title supervisor and she is not Tricia or Erin, then you would have your answer now won't you?!! Racism should never be accepted and condone!!!! Oh and if you do decide to check the validity of it, ask her what type of rates does she look for when she tried to purchase a house?!?

Look at HR, most of the people are from the Tribune and WHITE, and then the kids of those are hired as well.

The November layoff was age discrimination pure and simple. At least in the field, full time positions were few and far between. Rarely was someone hired as a full time non-exempt employee. In fact, many were demoted from exempt positions into the full time non-exempt status. When the company chose to cut those people, they chose to cut the older employees.

I have heard of medical discrimination and it wasn't against the employee but their child's condition required large medical expenses.

I have no idea who was promoted but there are other openly racist people already in a supervisory role in Finance. It's not surprising. The one person I am thinking of I think got talked to because that person now tries to keep it under wraps. Maybe it was said to see if there was a reaction. Finance in general is filled with a bunch of fear filled people who take comfort in putting others down. We all know that this way of being has been created by the management that has been around for years. Not all of them but several of the managers talk about their employees to various people and they love to make fun of people and belittle them. But don't worry it's all jokes.

The post is valid. As I work in that dept and was there when that individual used the racial slur.

Easy remedy. Let us know gender, ages with number of years work at Follett and ethnic information of those laid off and of those hired, and those promoted. That should clear things up for everyone.I would think being a professional and considering the new leadership at Follett stated on of it main goals was transparency as a company; also I would think it would want to align with progressive business practices that embraces broad cultural diversities Follett would jump at the opportunity to provide this information to show the progress it has made in this area.

10134, I simply asked if there was any truth to it given the nature of the original post.

@10117 - Here we go with these ridiculous accusations. Maybe she's being used as a cover up if your allegations are true.

Several people posted on the board with concerns of racism at Follett, one in particular shed light on white women being promoted and white girl cliques who helped each other get promoted. Is there any truth in this? I would say it wasn't as Yaa Stanley was promoted. Is she being used as a scapegoat?

They fire based on age (the younger and cheaper the better to keep), so why not promote bigots to baby sit the children.

They're proving why their business is dead with every bad decision. Their product and their business model is out of the era when women couldn't be trusted (because they're likely to get pregnant), minorities are people to be hired for appearance and experience is a threat. It's no accident the Bezos chose to compete against this decrepit company. It's like taking candy from the babies who are left to operate the antiquated stores.
