Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Was the layoff legal? Answer this question!

To all those laid off. Did you have the most seniority in your location or did you have the least seniority or were you somewhere in between? If everyone answers this question we can quickly discover if the layoff was random or if they followed the law.

I didn't have the most or the least I'm in my thirty's and was told my position was being eliminated. No other explanation. My manager was very cold when he told me. Glad I didn't waste any more time with such a heartless company.

I am gone also and in a much better place. I agree with 11781 what I witnessed is that they targeted senior people for layoffs and also by other means as previous posts have mentioned.

I was one of the most senior members on our team. I'm glad I'm gone. I have a much better job where I am treated better and the work is more interesting. When the layoffs occurred I noticed that most of those gone were senior people--many close to retirement.

I did have the lowest senoirity and I was told by HR in my exit meeting that "To be fair we (Follett) made the layoff selection by using the last hired first to go method." I guess their little speech was different for everyone.

"An employment policy or practice that applies to everyone, regardless of age, can be illegal if it has a negative impact on applicants or employees age 40 or older." In addition to your seniority level there is a second important question to all laid off associates. Were you in this protected over 40 age group?
