Former CCi Manager Speaks Out at Inside Higher Education

I wish this former manager would have given his or her name. I'm sure there are many others who also know what has been killing CCi, but were too afraid to say anything.....http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2014/05/07/corinthian-colleges-contemplates-sale-amid-declining-enrollment-and-revenue#sthash.SIgUpMjs.dpbs....I once worked for Corinthian Colleges in a management role, I can confirm that this company lacks ethics and quality. In addition, this company DOES NOT have the best interest of the students nor the employees. I worked countless hours and weekends helping the students. I received little to no support from the company! I will not refer to this company as an educational institution, because it is NOT! The students are provided with poor quality education and student experience. The company lies about its performance numbers, stock value, inflates the placement rate, makes false promises to the students, and turns the other cheek plagiarism, so that students may pass their courses successfully which leads to Corinthian receiving more financial aid from the government. I voiced my concerns and was instructed not to mention such issues again (but I continued voicing my concerns). I strongly believe in education, but it is injustice when students owe thousands of dollars for a so called "Higher Education". This company targets the poor class Americans, minorities, and disadvantage individuals hoping to advance into a better career opportunity. Corinthian feeds on their fears and disadvantage circumstances. In the end the students are deceived and left with debt and a piece of paper (called a degree/ certificate) of little to no value. This company made millions by entrapping others in debt!

Camden is funny. I have caught him multiple times posting anonymously to his own posts trying to make it seem as if a third party is agreeing with his posts. I have caught him by double posts he makes by him obviously hitting the back button and the post reposting with his name attached within a second of the other. Camden has made the assumption that Shoentay and Shoniqwa are blacks. This verifies that everyone is racist and bigoted, it is human nature. How does Camden know these names belong to blacks? He does not so let's label him a racist for making this assumption.

There's so much more than this going on. Here are some examples:

When students fall behind on their Genesis or cash plan Student Accounts begins by badgering the student with telephone calls, then pulls them out of class and when all else fails puts holds on the books and schedules and finally tells the student that they can no longer attend class.

Admissions consistently tells student that they can "try out" the program knowing all the while that if the student attends the classes that it places them well outside of their right to cancel. So admissions gets an enrollment and education takes a drop and the student gets charged.

Finally, CCI is not a VA friendly school. One of my students was caught a in catch 22 position. CCI filed her package late so she was not funded for the upcoming quarter so they placed a book and schedule hold on this student all because they screwed up.

@ANONYMOUS9280 yes your comment is racist , I hear this type of shit everyday from one of my co-workers when they are calling students..Your comments show the mentality that some people have that work or have worked at this company. There are some diamonds in the rough who go to this school to truly learn, as in any group there are also some bad apples who may just go for a check or to get a computer, last I checked Everest markets to the low income, disadvantage student and those come in all nationalities so you could have left the names off . The laptop is not FREE if you look at the students invoice they have already paid for it.

Tough to remember in this conversation that CCs are better.

Setting aside your somewhat biased cultural filters, what about the pawned laptop question? or, are you implying that only people of a certain race would do that? Stop pretending to have the moral high ground here, Dahn.

@Anonymous9285, I don't know if that person with the racist and classist comments is a CCi employee. Cowardly racists and sexists hide their identities. Many times they are wearing suits.

How do you know that quote is from a real person at CCi? It was left in the comments section, that person is not a source. So they really didn't speak out,.

@Camden, you cannot be that culturally incompetent. You must know that the words Anonymous9280 used were racist and classist coded words. I'll bet you wouldn't make a statement like that in a group of working class African Americans (or people who believe in justice and democracy). If you have that much contempt for others, you need help. And CCi needs help if they have people like you working for them. If I were a betting man, I would think this was management, but it could be someone who supports management.

The overly broad assertion that students receive a poor quality education is demonstrably false. If the alleged former professor who made that assertion was providing a poor education to his or her students, that fact undermines the credibility of the balance of the assertions in the post.

Dahn, 9280 did not mention race or gender or class. Why did you jump to the conclusion that the remarks were racist or otherwise improper? Are you saying that the names mentioned in that post could only belong to a certain race or gender of class of person? How would you have responded if the post asked about John and Susan? Would you have responded to the legitimate concern expressed about pawning laptops that were paid for with student loan funds?

Anonymous9280, your contempt for people of color is indicative of CCi management's mindset of racism, sexism, and classism. I am sorry for those teachers who work (or have worked)for CCi schools and who want to do something meaningful with their students. My email and twitter are given in every one of my posts so that concerned faculty, staff, and management can communicate with me.

There are lots of current and former faculty who would be happy to talk about the same things. Heald and Everest are letting long-time professors go now, and anyone who has been around for ten or more years can really provide evidence about how Heald and Everest have been conducting their business with regard to student success (and more often, student failure).
