Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Just released

To: All Employees

From: Jack Massimino, Chairman and CEO

Subject: Update on Progress

We’ve made considerable progress over the past couple of weeks, and this email provides an update on where we stand.

What we’ve accomplished

Our Operating Agreement with The Department of Education (ED) was completed on July 3rd; it provides the blueprint for an orderly transition of our schools over the next few months. We’ve met payroll, resumed partial payments to vendors, and have a mechanism in place for the continued release of Title IV funds to help us through the transition. And as of today, we have substantially completed ED’s extensive document request for information on more than 175,000 graduates.

It took all of us

None of our progress would have been possible without the efforts of hundreds of employees who worked seven days a week to complete these major initiatives. In addition, our regional and campus leaders and front line employees continue to keep our schools operating as smoothly as possible under difficult circumstances. Our instructors have helped students stay focused on their studies; campus leaders have communicated information about campus sales or teach-outs to employees and students; we’ve implemented new student disclosures, and dealt with aggressive competitors and tenacious reporters. Please accept my thanks for all of your efforts.

Media pressure has been intense

The news media coverage has been overwhelmingly negative and difficult to read (can they really be talking about us?), but I want to give a special thank you to Kent Jenkins, vice-president, public affairs, who has been the public face and spokesperson for CCi during – as he calls it “the full-throated war cry” of the media. Kent and the entire corporate communications team are doing their level best to tell our side of the story under mostly hostile conditions. But then again, some media outlets got it right, from the Wall Street Journal editorial board to the Laramie Boomerang. (see links below)

(https://hub.cci.edu) (then click on the WSJ op-ed story on the front page of the HUB)

Buyers are interested in our campuses

We are seeing substantial interest from potential buyers for our schools, including interest from non-profit and for-profit organizations. Although we can’t predict how the sales process will ultimately turn out, our preferred buyers are those who share our mission and have an interest in retaining our well-qualified employees. We are working to complete a sale of our campuses as quickly as possible, while making thoughtful decisions. We will keep you updated on our progress.

ED Monitor in Place Soon

We are close to announcing the monitor who will serve as the liaison between CCi and ED as we implement the Operating Agreement. You will hear more about this selection in the near future. Also, we will be hosting ED officials at our Campus Support Center this Thursday, July 17 and will be discussing our administrative capabilities and further defining the process for working with the monitor. In addition, we plan to take the ED officials on a school tour.

Stay focused; stay strong

As always, the best we can do is to continue to stay focused on our students and their dreams for better lives.

I will continue to update you as we have news to share.

Jack

If a buyer has integrity they will dissolve all CCI staff and start over. If you read the story in the LA Times, it specifically states that IF a buyer for a campus is found (no one buyer will buy them all, in case you really hoped that was going to happen), they will get it for a fire sale price. When you get something that CHEAP, you have ALL the flexibility to completely change it, and they will. NO company buys a company that the govt shuts down and keeps ANY elements of the failure. You are all gone, some sooner than others. And stop being proud of being in a fraud the govt is shutting down...it's pathetic.

If early on Jack would have taken the time to read that "overwhelmingly negative" press and Kent the "full-throated war cry" of the media, they wouldn't be bent over so far as to be able to kiss their asses good-bye. Imagine that! The entire board bent over, and if they can't kiss their own ass good-bye, they can kiss each others.

We may keep our jobs. If a company buys EOU and has integrity, it will provide current employees with the continuation of employment. If you don't have anything nice to say on this forum, than don't say it. Some of the staff in this organization is proud to serve students and change lives. If you don't like the difficult times, get out.

Honestly, it's sad to see so many staff members finally realizing what horrible leadership they had. Remember not everyone was on the front-end of signing-on and retaining students.

20965: when you find a new job, you absolutely MUST let ED know about that. Document, document, document. It is totally illegal to use a person's PIN and make changes on their behalf. It is their signature.

CCI and Jack M make me sick. What a piece of shit that man is. Even now, after it's painfully obvious that CCI has behaved horribly, he keeps lying. Take responsibility, will you? No wonder DOE wants to shut us down: our boss is an incorrigible liar and cannot be accountable, even in these last, shitty hours.

Just look at our Financial aid, where the manager is encouraging us to keep an eye on the students PIN so later we can complete all their paper work. I honestly feel like I do something really bad everyday

I've never seen an idiot like this that can say so much that means so little. Go give yourself another raise and then adopt a few students since you care so much. Nothing but a glorified used car salesman...

The employees full of hate and venom ought beware. If a new company comes in, they won't keep the infectious employees on. And remember they will look at all the adjunct past courses. Will you make the cut? Are you a good employee? The truth is out there . . .

I think they should hang out in this thread. The most hostile people are not the media, but their own employees!!
