Thanks, management for your utter lack of professionalism in telling us what's going on. I hope you are not in charge when I get my next gig . . . Then again, I will likely have a new gig wayyyyyy before you, since I already saw the sign and started looking.

There are more and more public school systems going toward online learning and placed like K12.com or Connections Academy etc. It seems as if there are some genuinely dedicated people here who care about education and enjoy the art of teaching. If you don't have state certification as needed for some of these online public school systems - you can always have your transcripts and work history reviewed by the Department of Education in your state to see if you can obtain a temporary teaching certificate for that state. The real change needs to take place between grades 1-12 and would be nice to see some of the passionate teachers here explore entering into that realm to start these children with the right foundation and role models.
Thanks, 21042. I don't know you, but I think your students are very lucky to have you in the classroom. I've been an adjunct for 15 years, off and on. I've been at universities, tech colleges, and for profits. I really have enjoyed it. And I really loved Everest. It's sad to have to move on, because I don't want to. But I know something else will come around. Something always does.
21390- I don't blame you for lashing out at people complaining about 30 students. Heck, I may have been one of them. I was/am (depending on who you ask) an adjunct, and I get it. It sucks. And depending where you live, unless you're working on your dissertation, you're going to be an adjunct for several years, probably working at different schools online and on-ground, working up to FT somewhere. The job IS intrinsically rewarding, despite the crap pay and no benefits, otherwise we wouldn't do it. I'm not sure how long you've been adjuncting for but let me tell you, the longer you do it, the easier it is to become jaded. I can't speak for everyone on here because there are a lot of bitter pity-parties and ridiculous trolls here, but for a FTer it is frustrating to have a class that would normally not fill be overloaded with students -- not simply because of the extra workload, but because we KNOW the only reason that classes are overfull because other sections were cut. So admin's response is to cut classes from willing and deserving adjuncts' like yourself and overload FT instructors. It's not good for anyone's morale or for any of the students. I feel for you. I have been given 5 classes, but only getting paid for 4, since FT pay is the same for 5 classes as it is 4. At NO traditional university or community college would that be acceptable - instructors are always paid overload salaries when they take on extra work. (I'm not sure how this isn't a labor violation, especially in CA, but who knows.) I think that's why some are upset. If I could give someone like yourself my 5th class, I would do it in a heartbeat. Keep fighting the good fight.
I'm sorry that really sucks. I too am an adjunct and depend in the income so I know how you feel. It will take a bit but fall term is just around the corner so hopefully you find something for then!
It sucks. And it makes me so mad the crap instructors complaining about having 30 students earlier this week. They complain and clearly hate their jobs. I worked hard, liked my students, and didn't let retention bother me. It is part of the job. Students thanked me for my help often. I would have happily taken the classes. But, it seems like the norm to keep crap employees on. I feel bad for the students who get those jerks. I am glad for myself that I get to move on.
