Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

The bookstores don't have books!!!

I have had so many students coming to me asking me why does the bookstore either have a handful of books or none at all? When I ask the higher ups I get told different things. Oh there's an issue with FA so some students aren't cleared. Total BS. FA doesn't control how many books are in the store. Then I started hearing the bookstore is planning on closing and that's why they have little inventory. That makes more sense but the next excuse I heard sounded a little bit more realistic. The school has no money and can't afford to buy the books for the store to give out. Now that sounds like CCI. I feel so bad for these students who had hope and are seeing that hope slowly destroyed. Not all of them are uneducated or stupid like most people think.

Anonymous22085 - have your classes started already? if so, when did they begin? if not, when do they begin? Is the bookstore operated directly by Everest (Corinthian) or is it a separate vendor?

It's not going to Ebooks. Some books aren't available on ebook. They can't pay vendors and their publishing house wants $$ before they send books to students. But they still don't seem to be shipping in some cases.

RE Bookstore

In regards to textbooks for any given term the Corinthian Colleges they will not order book now or send out books till the 1st day of class because the classes are not E-book or E-textbook ready from day 1 of classes. for students who want Hardbound text books has to way till the first day of classes wheres as before the e-books or textbooks we would have the hardbound books before the 1st day of classes. Every time ask about this in why we have to wait till the 1st day of classes for books to be ordered they keep telling me the same reason due to the school going to the E-books and or E-Textbooks. they have been telling me this same story for right at a year now and have not changed their story to me any at all.

21825, in college I bought a very used novel for $7. It was $4.95 originally and clearly had been resold multiple times!

Anonymous21804...name one college or school that does not mark up the price of text books! I used to work for Corinthian and even the custom published textbooks can be bought used from former students...but that right, that takes cash and most of CCi's students are looking for stipends and not wanting or have the means to come out of pocket. It is basic economics. What is even more interesting to me when I see the price of an erental cost more than a physical book...again another example of the law of supply verses demand at work.

At real colleges, students are able to buy their books independently from the college. Selling books to the students was just another CCI racket. Huge mark-ups, built into student loans.

I work for Ambassador Bookstore which is NOT owned by CCI. I did not know some schools did not have books. I was told by CCI that students were not allowed to get books until the first day of class. Here in Chicago, it is the 24th of July. Can you tell me what schools do not have books?

I've been blaming the bookstore all this time and it wasn't even their fault. I feel bad. I feel bad for the students, the employees who are trying so hard to do a job made impossible and now I feel bad for the bookstore. Today I'm walking over to the store and apologizing for the attitude I gave him a couple weeks ago. There's definitely a very negative tone these days.

Just what students need. An actual reason to stop doing work. Hello, lower retention rates.

Good point. Everyone at ECP is thrilled Talisma is no more. Has anyone asked themselves why? Is it because they can't afford to keep it implemented?

I'm sorry to day this, but the general feeling I get from emotes is that 'everything is just fine.' It's really not. After the panic in June, nothing really changed. Everyone sort of sighed and moved on. I've even seen posts on here discussing how they've been told if CCI doesn't sell their brands, they will rebrand and everyone keeps their jobs. But if our supposed student-centered colleges can't give stipends (that's their own loan money, right?) and books, it's starting to happen. Things are now changing. Everyone will make excuses and nothing will get done. Stuff will break and not get fixed. People will quit or lose their jobs and jobs won't get done. The biggest thing you'll notice is that your bosses and the deans and the presidents will become less and less available. (Anybody notice that subtle change yet, or is it me?) I think 2 of my bosses are gone. I haven't heard a peep from them in weeks. Whose in charge? That becomes less clear. I've been through this, so you can hate me for sharing. I'm not even telling you what to do. Don't quit. Quit. Whatever. But I am telling you what's going to happen. Any decision makers who don't want to answer to students will be non responsive. The book fiasco is only the beginning. CCI is for sale and it won't exist in 6 months. We all need to collectively understand that so we can have real communication and support each other. I wish you all the very, very best. I apologize for my colleagues who have been so unprofessional here. We need to overcome the trolls and work together now.

CCI isn't getting books because they're credit is no good. Nice if CCI to prioritize these vendors. It's only going to get worse, people. Pretty soon people will quit or get laid off, they won't be replaced, and their jobs just won't get done. That will affect students. (Although, IMO, that happened after the massive layoffs last winter, too. I noticed students stopped getting dropped after not participating for 2 weeks. I had students who never participated and were never dropped.)

Judging from how poorly my students do on quizzes, I would say most likely don't read them anyway . . .

My impression is the publishers are fearful they'll get stuffed. CCI can't pay the bill. (Fire a useless manager or two and free it up, CCI!)

My heart goes out to these students too. However,as I see students develop basic skills in these classes, I tend to think they will be able to use some of these skills to move beyond the problems that CCi has caused.
