Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Just informed by upper management Re-Entry is not hitting their budget for summer term

I thought we were not supposed to worry about numbers and budgets for enrollment? Can someone please elaborate if this is legal?

Anonymous22095- I've pointed out that CCi only wants to make it look legal in so far as that is easy. If it's not easy to make it look legal, then they will just do what they want and tell you it's legal. What can you do about it anyway?

I don't mean to sound rude, but do you really think they worry about what's legal?

22088- This is 100% false: "they are allowed to use productivity measurement against target as a means for determining job performance and appraisals or - in this case - who gets let go first." In fact, if you read the Federal Register that I posted, you will find that it's strictly prohibited. CCi may use smiles or dials, but nothing that can be directly connected to enrollments, or a student continuing in a program.

Is it possible they are trying to find 'poor performers' because layoffs are imminent? They've already trimmed the fat on faculty. Enrollment is low and if they don't have students, they don't have money. So, they can't pay and don't need staff. I am really not trying to be a big doomsdayer here. But I think we all ought to start being realistic about what's going on within CCI right now. Read older posts. Things have changed significantly but nobody seems to understand the significance. CCI literally cannot survive without students. DOE won't hand out more money than CCI can get for loans.

CCI is just like a used car lot. I don't care of you want to blue one, I have a red one that is just right for you. That said, it does not matter what the student wants. You want to be a engineer? No problem, medical assisting is for you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regarding the legality.... while schools are not permitted to pay based on enrollment activity, they are allowed to use productivity measurement against target as a means for determining job performance and appraisals or - in this case - who gets let go first. If you press me I will not be able to identify the precise ruling, but it was enacted about 2-3 years ago after many of the significant regulatory changes rearding for-profit school behaviors.

Anonymous22039- I've posted about this many times, go back to late April 2014 for a link to the Federal Register about this topic. The basic summary is this: Employees cannot be held responsible for enrollment counts, re-entry counts, the time a student spends in a program, or anything of the sort. That said, what CCi does is talk numbers all day long, and then when it comes to finding a problem, it's about your smile or dials. It's just a wolf in sheep's clothing. Furthermore, that same Federal Register, says that CCi cannot change admissions staff pay more than one time per year, including benefits, and all other forms of compensation, which includes anything that may be viewed as a benefit, such as parking, vacation, health benefits, and so on and so forth. The regulations have not stopped CCi from changing benefits more than the maximum one time per year. Just read the Federal Register--all of this is covered.

Why would you not worry about enrollment? Without student $, there is no $$$!!! Who told you student enrollment numbers didn't matter?

In order for upper management to get their next bonuses, and vendors to be paid, layoffs are imminent.

That means that they are in deep, deep shit. Can't sell a losing business unless it happens very soon.

That means they won't be able to afford to keep everyone. So, those of you smug employees who are so sure you are keeping your jobs when they 'sell' - look around. Some of you won't even make it to a closing of a sale.

Sure. It is call "Rape and Pillage". Rape the students for money, and upper management pillage the money. Re-Entry students are not a worry. Just rape nrand new students for a quarter's worth of money.
