22749, I've been teaching online for over 5 years. I typically have 25% of tje students pass the course. I've never been put on a PIP or criticized in anyway for having so few students pass. This doesn't mean that other instructors don't receive pressure; it's just that I have never been pressured to pass students by inflating grades.

So here's a question: how many instructors reading this post have been put on a Performance Improvement Plan for failing to achieve minimum course completion rates? And hoe does that practice impact the academic rigor of your classes?

22737, I am glad you have found a better place to get your education! I am

Sorry that was your experience. As an instructor I can tell you that I read every assignment (per our contract we are to give feedback and have grading rubrics. If you don't students, question the deans of the departments. You are supposed to have good feedback on every assignment and weekly thread grades.) if a student did not do the work, he or she failed. If a student turned on nonsense, he or she failed. (That happened more often than you would think.) if a student did the work, he or she passed. If they plagiarized, I dealt with that. One time I recommended removal for a student who cut and pasted 3 assignments from the internet. Nothing was done. Student stayed in my class, did not participate for at least the last 4 weeks, but got an F. Anyway, if anyone told me to change or off up a grade, I would have quit. I earned my degrees by working full time to pay my bills and for school. I never made excuses or turned in work late. And I won't just give grades away, no matter the excuse. My students get an education from me, should they choose to participate. So many do not, it makes me mad. All that money they take out for loans, and then either never go to class or make constant excuses for themselves and then still don't do the work. Good students are the minority, but very appreciated. But good students deserve good educations. I hope they get them.

The information is true based on the people who submitted it. I was the student who talked about getting passing grades because I wasn't feeling well. I really did get A's for two assignments that I did not do or did not complete entirely. There was no need for the grade falsification. I had A's in the classes, participated on time every week and spent countless hours making sure I understood what I was doing for each and every assignment. It really makes it seem pointless to try when teachers are just going to give you grades. I am so glad I left and that I actually put the effort into learning so that I am still thriving in one my state's universities.

You can see why they put out other communication to staff. If items in the article are true, and I feel it's reliable considering the publisher, an investigation into criminal charges are deserved. This reads of an out of control corp based on greed, fraudulently doing business to take money from the US govt and students. Not unlike the mortgage meltdown or Medicare fraud, which is where these idiots probably came from.
