Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Here's a question I've had for a long time: If students only check in to keep attendance up, what's the point?

Time and again I have students just show to get marked present, them disappear for another 2 weeks. Then around week 10 they panic because they are failing. I fail students who do not do the work. But why is it important for them to not get kicked out during the term? Do they receive money throughout the term?

If they don't attend at least 60%, we can't keep all of their aid money.

I have students who come first day. Do nothing all semester, then show last couple weeks and turn something in. They are not dropped, have attended, and at the end of the semester, I have to post last day of attendance. Well, it isn't the first day, it's the last couple weeks. For financial aid purposes, they were enrolled all semester as a full time student, they got their medical, and if they were on state assistance, I'm sure whatever money they got flowed as long as they were enrolled. The students know the system and are milking it.m

They receive a stipend if they have participated in classes enough. If you Google (Everest stipend) you can find many students discussing their stipend.

If they fail, they have to retake and pay for it.
