Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

upside down...

so as a bleeding heart liberal I'm sorry to see educational opportunities for the disadvantaged continue to be eliminated, thereby increasing a stratified socioeconomic society. but at the same time I am bewildered by Republicans who cry foul at Big Gov interference w CCi. Simple fact is this: In general, for every student CCi (and other FPs) admit, the US tax burden increases due to repayment issues. I'm okay with this! But not sure why Republicans are (given that CCi is not really a private enterprise - no company that is 90% dependent on the Fed Gov can legitimately be called "private enterprise").

The what about non-profits that are 85% dependent on govt money? How much CA state tax money is spent on community colleges or the UC system that I pay for but I can't use? Is that any different? F*** you bleeding heart liberal and take that black ass in the White House with you.

23119, thanks for sharing facts and fiction we all already knew. There's a lot of people on this board who make obvious points as if they've shared information that's even remotely useful or new.

FACT: CCI is corrupt. robbed Gov't money.

FICTION: CCI will be bought or rebranded and your jobs are secure.

Who cares about HS diplomas and GEDs? Are we going to start discussing kindergarten classrooms next?

We could spend days and weeks arguing all this without a winner. But the point of this board is to communicate information about layoffs. So, everybody's political stance is mostly unimportant to this blog

Each state and school who awarded hs diplomas and or GEDs need to be also monitored or disciplined. How is it CCI's fault entirely? Who taught these people? Who said that these people were ok to recieve their diploma? Yet its CCI's fault we are committing crime and fraud by enrolling those who def would never be given a chance at a cc college or university. Bullshit.

23106, worry not. They'll be gone soon enough. What we need to worry about is what management has told employees since all this went down - that if CCI doesn't sell campuses they will just rebrand. If that happens, it will not stop.

Enrolling students who can not read or write and then expecting instructors to perform miracles... This is CCI's vision! It's FRAUD, shut them down TODAY!

Liberals don't seem to have any problems with raising taxes, do they!

I think we need to stop treating people as if they are disadvantaged and start treating people as if they should take some responsibility for their lives. You have to work at failure as hard as you work at success. More than half of my students never had any intention of earning a degree. They were in it for the stipends they received. I once called a student (outreach) at 1 in the afternoon. She was clearly sleeping. She either had time to nap or sleep half the day away, but she hadn't attended my class in weeks. Many of the 'disadvantaged' victims know exactly how to get stipends and show up in class just to keep them, without doing any work. I'm not saying CCI is not culpable, but after my experience teaching for CCI, I've gotten a much clearer picture about how our tax dollars are being spent. Not wisely.

Disadvantaged my ass. I hate that liberals always take the "woe is me" attitude and who else is to blame for their fuc%ked up situation. Get off your lazy ass and stop looking for handouts. Hard work and perseverance is the goal to success. Take a note from one of the people liberals tend to idolize, Charles Darwin: "Survival of the fittest".

So you're "okay" with increasing the US tax burden for the sake of keeping educational opportunities for the "disadvantaged" that ultimately lead to a fake degree and debt. Shut the fuk up. You and the rest of the liberals in office are the reason why this country is in the shthole.
