Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Hum...what's in store for Largo, FL

Gulf Coast Academy which was operated by a Chater School company has been taken over by the Pinellas County School Board. The PCSB will rename the school Pinellas Gulf Coast Academy and plan to expand the current student population from 344 students to 545 students. Does this mean they will need to expand into the neighboring Largo campus in the 2014-2015 school year? Rumors are flying that school board officials toured the Largo campus.

Largo has known of it's closing for a long time now. I did not start to get worried until December of 2013 as things seamed to be more than just a rumor. I asked my DOA if this was true and if I had stability with this school or should I start looking for a job. I really thought that my DOA would tell me the truth being that she always acted like she cared about us and I thought we had a good relationship.. Well I believed her when she looked at me in the eye and said you will be fine nothing is going to happen , and that she would definitely give me the heads up if anything would EVER happen. I am a single mother who provides for 4. I ignored all my co- workers were saying and kept my focus on my job and worked very hard to be the employee they could always count on and always went above and beyond. The first week of February a guy from CCI CA showed up and fired our campus president. That should of been my final wake up call to start looking for job ASAP but I once gain choose to ignore the "gossip" and stay loyal to my job and management. I showed up to work on a Monday Feb 24th and had a really bad feeling as when I was walking into the campus to start my shift I saw the same guy from CA who let go our president outside and as I walked by him he was laughing on the phone saying how he couldn't wait to get "this " over with so he can go play some golf. So, I thought maybe he was just here to tell us who our new president is going to be and convinced myself to not have that bad feeling.. Once I had been there an hour I still felt worried all seamed off so I once again asked my DOA is everything ok and she said of course it is and as she finished her sentence I saw one of my co workers escorted down the hallway by other campus management at that point I froze and knew. My point it that they have known about this and they do not care about you in any way what so ever so DO NOT think that because you are a great employee or because your boss adores you or any other reason that they care enough to tell you what is going on so that you have a heads up to start looking for another job. I've seen so many people on this site thinking they are going to keep their jobs and that they have 5 or 6 months. All CCI management has known about this for a while but they will not tell you anything . Please do not be gullible like me. I know that most of you care about your jobs and depend on your jobs financially and that losing this income could be devastating to you financially and emotionally. Unlike that CA JERK that couldn't wait to come let go some people so that he can rush back to play golf or like the fraudulent un ethical DOA that was to scared to do the actually right thing as I am sure she was scared that she would have to answer for her recently being caught doing a students taxes in her office so that she could hurry up and get the student to FA to complete all needed to start in two days. Funny because the FA told the student she wouldo have to go and file her taxes and then come back once done so they can help her get enrolled but when the DOA found out that the student was about to walk out the door with out completing "today" she ran after the student and took her to her office and help her file , she was caught by the FA rep who told her DOF who was pretty upset and sick of her sneaky stuff. So I know why CCI is going through this as I witnessed the DOA do so many things that are illegal and things that are against compliance all just to bring in student population . She nor does most management care about the students all she cared was about being creative on ways she could make sure any person that walked in that door did not leave unless they were enrolled no matter what law she was breaking or what person she was forcing into a program that was not for them but since she needed to fill a spot into a particular program for that start she would convince the that student that program was the best one we had to offer no matter how opposite the program suited the student. I am rambling because it's because of people like her that we lost our jobs or to others soon to loose there jobs and I will testify against all that I saw, any day in court or to whom ever it is that needs me to, so that she or any of the others who did stuff like this get what they deserve. Oh and I did get a severance and it was pretty descent. Anyone who does not like what I wrote can keep any negative comments to themselves , I could care less if you have an issue with this. I only wrote this for those who care. With hope that at least one thing that I said helped them with whatever they were wondering.

23205, most of the possible outcomes lead to a lack of employment. And if anyone is feeling good about their futures, consider how easily they put 12 schools on teach out. That's 12 colleges filled with unemployed or soon to be unemployed people. They don't give a shit about you or anyone else. And they are probably far too busy saving their own jobs to worry about yours.

Unfortunately, even though this is an interesting development, it does not lead to any outcome that would have staff keeping their jobs.

I think the reality should be faced that all CCI schools will sell or close - 6 months is the deadline, but I think it's down to 5 now. Don't be surprised by what happens. But to not prepare for the closings is foolhardy.

I wonder if the school board will buy the building

Everest does not own the building. It is leased. I wonder when the lease is going to be up... Does anyone know?

Don't be surprised by anything...just be prepared. 12 schools were essentially closed overnight and students shuffled to neighboring campuses. It is possible to offer to transfer Largo students to the Tampa Campus or do a refund. CCI is notorious for not communicating these things as not to cause hysteria and massive exit of staff. Who knows...maybe the DOE is already aware of this deal and we the worker bees are just to keep working.

I worked at a for profit college that regularly su blessed unused rooms and areas of the school. Makes it look busier and they get income.

It is possible to share some of the Everest portion for a reduction in the monthly rental agreement.

William Corbett, the district's deputy superintendent, said it should cost about $50,000 to make some changes to the school's existing site. Those costs will be built into the lease, he said, the cost of which has been reduced from what the local board paid. The total cost to run the school in the 2014-15 school year is estimated at $2.2 million, with about $156,000 rent.

It sounds like they could be interested in leading the building. Does Everest own it? It would be very unlikely they would take it over in a few weeks. You can't just shut down a university in a month's time. But, if someone wants to lease the building ultimately, that does not bode well for the school. CCI has no credit, they are functioning only off what students bring in, according to media outlets. If that's the case, it would be unlikely that Everest would be able to lease another campus (or build) and move. Especially since it's for sale. Either way, CCI school are for sale. If they don't get sold, they will all go to teach out. I know people are desperately thinking they will keep their jobs. But that does not seem likely either.

I heard from one of the parents that the Gulf Coast Academy is going to expand as of the start of the school year.

No. Everyone keeps their jobs. Nothing is changing! Snail and dial people! There's nothing going on here!
