Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Why do so many think they are safe?

You know, "Socle is golden," "Heald is worth millions and will be sold," and the claims go on and on. If everything is so perfect, why does CCi have such widespread problems?

Why does CCi have such widespread problems? Simple.

  1. They recruit the students Kamalla described in her press con last month. That is the target demographic

  2. The target demographic is financially and functionally illiterate. Like sheep, they will do whatever that cute admissions rep told them to do

  3. The students are retained, communicated with, dropped, re - enrolled (repeat) until CCi has made as much money as possible from them.

Then the students are on their own (with or without a degree), they default on their loans and the regulator/CCi "relationship" gets investigated. Follow the $$$, pal. This is not rocket science. It's arithmetic.

People are reporting on this board that severance packages have been rescinded for teach out schools. That's 12 that were announced. Plus 5 more in IL after Durbin shut down Everest in IL yesterday. Plus mass layoffs in Feb and May. Plus adjuncts slashed at ECPO before this term started. (Adjuncts are at will, part time, so we just get crapped on without a word.) it's best nobody panic, but should begin to think about your futures. You can literally lose your job anytime. Trust me. I was teaching last term. And without warning, I am not. They still have not contacted adjuncts to tell them they are now inactive. I read that on this board. I haven't heard from my bosses since they lied and said we would have work this term. But no students = no classes.

23377, it is startling, isn't it, even faced with facts, that employees don't believe anything will change. And now that IL cut off any new CCI enrollment a yesterday, more states are sure to follow. There may have been plan to keep this all afloat for a sale, but it's literally falling apart now.

23377 - I used to work where you do and the people saying that are lying. I recently got a call (recruiting agency) asking to be a reference for DS. I wanted to say "You have GOT to be kidding me!" but I stuck with a more professional "I'm sorry, but I haven't worked with him for quite a while and would feel uncomfortable." So even the management are looking, and they are getting desperate enough to ask ex-direct reports who quit BECAUSE OF THEM to be references.

It's amazing how dumb some of the people we work with are. I still have folks all around who seem perfectly content to keep working and trust that Daddy CCi will take care of everyone, or so they claim. Heck, after the second round of layoffs (was it May?) everyone should have been looking. There were plenty of red flags, not the least of which being the level of idiocy we see in management every day (local, regional, etc). After everything that's happened in the last 2 months, all of the evidence of wrongdoing, all of the negative publicity, states refusing to let us enroll their students, etc you would have to be brain damaged to not be looking for work now.

Heald is worth millions. Purchased in 2010 for 395 million.... Being sold for in the 60 million range if lucky. So really.... They sell for that, they are still in debt from the original sale.

59: Nothing proven in court of law! So reassuring. That and a quarter I found in the gutter will get 2 shares of CCi stock. You are inspirational my friend... xoxo.
