There seems to be no point. We already have dramatic decreases in enrollment. There are 10% paycuts or voluntary unpaid week off during the term. We will probably not have a Fall Term so what's the point of trying to keep "students" to fulfill their adult responsibility of attending classes?

24462, managers regularly do evaluations. They are internal and don't always share them. It's big brother out there. They watch your classes like a hawk. Trust me. I know this first hand. And they will be watching even closer now, since they have way fewer instructors to oversee and because students are it. They are our a ONLY sorce of income.
The for profit world, especially online, is pretty small. Your bosses now will go to other for profit schools. And they may remember whether or not you fulfilled your contract. I advocate for you not doing outreach. It only helps me now and in the future.
24477 is mostly correct. And a lot of for profits, because of an influx of instructors, are not even hiring instructors with multiple instructor jobs. They know you won't do your best if you are working 5 other classes. So, they don't want you. Higher education is making changes. You can be pissed all you want, but working FT with a master's degree is a rare opportunity.
Just consider this much: You can either do outreach or not. And it may or may not affect your job status. But, if they decide to keep based on who does their jobs, you may stick around. And if they do go to teach out, that may extend your life at ECPO by another 12 months. (Nobody will all be kept on for a teach out. It will be a handful of instructors, at best.) Doing outreach may or may not affect your future employment at ECPO. But, ask yourself, is there a difference to you personally? Are you good with being let go sooner than later? Then laugh in the face of what's going on. Puff up your chest and give a big f*** you to the school. But, whether the fact that outreach may or may not matter to your job not, you and I both know there's NO other FT instructor jobs out there. In all of for profit right now, there are not enough open FT jobs to fill the FT jobs here at ECPO. So, most of us will move on and pick up 8 classes at 4 different schools and still make half of what we make now, and we have NOT bennies. That's a fact. Go look at how few FT jobs are posted at higeheredjobs. It's dismal. And even non profit colleges are hiring PT Adjuncts in lieu of expensive FT jobs. The jobs in our chosen fields are diminishing. So, be a jerk. Don't do outreach. Whatever. But, if you are financially set, in their face. As for me, I'm keeping my head down and doing what I am contracted to do. I have NO idea what my future will be and whether my managers now could make the decision to hire me at another school down the road. I'm committed and professional. Laugh all you want. But, I intend to keep my income stream coming for as long as I can.
24445 I'm not trying to be rude, but that's kind of delusional. Whether or not you do your outreach fully, everyone is going to go if the individual campuses are sold. Everyone is on the chopping block. Online instructors have not received evaluations for a year. Even if they do use merit to can people, the ones who met all of the outreach requirements perfectly will be next.
Yeah. Don't do outreach! Please! I want to be kept for the next round of massive layoffs! I think management will love you not doing outreach! Students are literally the only source of income. Literally. So, losing them is no big deal at this point! Thanks for contributing to the future of RCPO by treating the only source of income we have like that! Go professional integrity! You show CCI who is in charge!!!
It's likely any CCI school we exist for the winter term. But, there's a very small chance they could be around for the fall term. Since they are losing students by the thousands and ECPO has 16,000 students (down from 27,000 last term) they will maybe have 10-12,000 next term. They will lay off full timers (adjuncts are long gone) and they will choose who to keep on based on productivity and whether you fulfill your contract. So, not doing outreach will only affect the last day you work for CCI. October 5 or December 23. If that is important to you, then it might be worth it to keep doing it. If you are independently wealthy, screw CCI. You will surely show them!!!!
24355, they tolerate it for the stipend. If you breach a financial contract (which is what they've done by taking money and not participating) they should be bothered. Day and night. They've essentially taken the money with no intent to pay it back.
Hey, 24355!
Yes, this is us. We have bastardized the relationship between teacher and student by introducing all kinds of "middle men" who harass students and their families on a daily basis. I can't believe anyone - even someone who cannot read- would tolerate this for more than 1 term. Not to mention the delay in FA fund distribution. Yep, this IS US!
If you don't do outreach, how will you fill your days? Posting once every other day in the threads? Grading homework that takes 2 minutes per student because the curriculum is such a joke? Work 10 hours a week?
Please. Those now not doing outreach probably haven't for a long time. Now they have an excuse.
24360, if you don't like the level of student, quit. Free country.
You guys sound like that ass in a call center posting yesterday. He said they all use social media while they are working, but it's the managers' faults. Employees really expect to stay on if they ever do sell? Doubtful.
I used to think my students were exaggerating when they complained to me about other instructors. I get why they want to quit. If their instructors won't do their jobs, how are they supposed to be productive? The problem isn't just the quality of students.
The head of my department is doing outreach on instructors. In one certain department, expect to be bombarded like a student if you don't do outreach. Remember that students are their ONLY asset right now. And the number if them has plummeted. And at least half of those have stopped participating, even though it's week
- That leaves, what, 8,000 students right now actively participating in their program? If you don't do outreach, they'll be hounding you to do it. If we lose students, we are in serious danger of losing our jobs. I am doing outreach. I don't want to be laid off before they close or sell. If you are laid off, you go inactive. You are not considered a viable employee. If they sell, you won't have a chance to be hired, especially if you ignore your contract. But I don't care what you do.
Yes, I really feel for those who applied to be FT.
@24358: They did, YES. But not FACULTY. We were given students who were not college material and had to essentially beg them to attend classes, even though they could not read or write. Then FACULTY was penalized if these students dropped or were dropped, despite the unbelievable amount of Outreach effort we did. So faculty were given the short end of the stick.
". The workers are worried about their financial futures and careers, not saving a sinking ship that they had no part in causing!" I am calling BULLLLSHIIIITEEEE!!! Admissions reps and managers did MORE than there fair share to help cause this.
Is this really us?
24343: Are YOU serious? The unethical company management continues to screw you and your co-workers. The workers are worried about their financial futures and careers, not saving a sinking ship that they had no part in causing! Outreach is ineffective, a hassle, and is only in place to make management look like everyone is trying to babysit adults that knowingly enrolled in classes. I am tired of the abuse and swearing that results from Outreach when I finally reach a student on the phone. CCI management can take their Outreach and shove it where the sun don't shine. It won't be happening.
Wow....I am really surprised by the ethics of some of my coworkers.
What is sad is that before the shit hit the fan in June, they hired all of these full-timers for online late last year (program directors, program leads, full-time faculty) to try to create these groups (PODs) or whatever they are called. These people left their previous full-time jobs. Soon they will be out of a job altogether. Sad.
Not doing Outreach anymore. What are they going to do? Fire me? That's a laugh.
No kidding. I busted my butt every year meeting their expectations, never missing a beat...got great evaluations. Yet have not received a merit increase in two years. I will not be going out of my way any more. I'm sure evaluations are the least of their worries now.
Bad review since you did not meet always-changing faculty expectations...lol. What so we can get a merit pay increase or be scheduled for classes in the Fall when CCI is no longer around? Moot.
...but will I get a bad review? lol
The 'students' who have enrolled despite all CCI problems are hoping to get one last free stipend to supplement their welfare especially since they are hoping for loans to be discharged. Are they serious about actually excelling in their classes? HELL NO! They just stick around long enough to utter a few incoherent words in the discussion to register attendance so they can get their STIPEND check.
Skype still not working. Talisma sucks big time! Screw it. The majority of these students don't attend anyway. Totally pointless.
