After the announcement of cutting paychecks and asking full-time employees to work free for one week, Mr. Jerry Doty, campus director, decides to leave for the next week without explanation. He jumps ship and runs away from facing reality. Your example as a leader and spokesperson for the campus and support to the students is in serious question.

He's got first round of unpaid week off? It's going to be a gorgeous weekend! He might as well take his turn while the weather is nice!
That's going to be the general response when the crap hits the fan. Everyone else is probably hiding out in their offices, looking busy and otherwise avoiding dealing with questions, concerns, issues, etc.
Directors, managers, deans, etc are all going to start quitting now, before we go under and they are all vying for the same few jobs. Because THEY understand it's over soon. And the ones that stay with be completely useless and unavailable, which they probably are now. They don't want to deal with angry employees, even though part of their job is to manage the bad stuff too.
Francesco Schettino is Jerry Doty's role model, maybe?
