Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Why stereotype all students?

It makes me sick to see how the instructors feel about their students. I have read so many derogatory comments on here about the students at Everest. I happen to be a former student and I do not fit any of the descriptions that have been labeled to the students. I guess I am one of the few who is not in it for a stipend check (any money left over after tuition goes back to the lenders). I do not collect welfare, I work two jobs, have no kids, and go to college. I have been a vet tech for 17 years and decided on a career change, which is how I ended up enrolled with EUO. I realize now that I made a big mistake, but now must pick up and move on. Just because I made said mistake does not mean I fit into the stereotypical group that a lot of you have labeled on Everest students. Actually, after reading some of the posts on here I have realized that some of the instructors are just as ignorant as the so called students they were/are trying to teach. It is sad how you people have turned on others since all this crap started. Insulting people and making fun of others will not get you very far in life. There is not much professionalism coming from this board, which I find really disturbing to say the least.

You are correct when you say that a lot of the people here lack the professionalism that should be expected of people working in the post-secondary education sector. And as for the comments about the students, I cannot apologize for everyone but I can tell you that a lot of us don't feel that way at all. I have enjoyed my time working as an online instructor as well as an on-grounds career services employee, both positions gave me the opportunity to know a great many students and see the benefits of their efforts in school. Not everyone made it through, that is true but sometimes just having the courage to get started is enough to change a life cycle.

As for what is occurring here on these boards. People are afraid, angry, hurt and/or confused about what is going on and unfortunately, that is being expressed in the most well "yucky" way possible. I am sorry that you are seeing such a sordid side to my fellow employees but again, I would like to say, this does not represent how all of us feel. Day after day, my colleagues and I share stories about our students and how they are doing, etc. These are the people with good, genuine hearts that care for our students.

So while I know you are here to find information, please roll past those postings and responses regarding how people feel about the students, because that is a small voice that seems to be screaming the loudest right now. The rest of us are still doing our job to the very best of our abilities despite these uncertain times.

Thank you for your posting and hopefully while this doesn't excuse the poor behaviors here, it might at least shed some light on it. Best of wishes in your future endeavors.

And my sentiments toward Corinthian employees include the instructors who cannot write - I see their e-mails and responses to students and cannot believe they have degrees. If you want to know what's wrong with their students, look at the instructors. These are the products of higher education - they send out e-mails with horrible spelling and punctuation. Not to mention the papers they grade for students. Can they read? Do they even know what a good paper should contain? SAD!!! It must be nice to have a cushy work-from-home job where you do not even have to prove your own skills.

I agree with the original poster here - it's unfair to generalize the students who attend Everest, or any other Corinthian school. I have many students in my population who are dedicated to their education beyond whatever refund check they may receive. I'm sick of our employees and their lack of professionalism. Go away and stop giving the rest of us a bad reputation. Many of the employees who post here write like they have less than a grammar school level education. It's embarrassing.

We all might lose our homes. This isn't funny. Our students are retards but isn't their fault they reached for an empty dream. I just hope we can all find lifeboats off this sinking ship.

25074, I really hope you are not a college professor!!! WOW!!! 25084, don't worry, your house will be repossessed once you can't make your mortgage payments. It will eventually belong to the bank. As for your side piece, shove it up your ass.

After reading these replies to my post, I now realize that the students are much more intelligent than those who are teaching them. All you people are a bunch of disgruntled employees who got shit canned by a sorry ass company. You have the balls to talk about the students and their choosing this school, but what about you? Your dumb ass took a job here so you are not in any position to talk about the students. As far as the students paying for your shit, well at least I can say I still have a job. I bet your sorry asses won't be able to say that in the next couple of weeks!!! When you assholes start losing your homes, cars, and other shit I will be the one with the last laugh.

CCI is tanking and seems most likely to close. Do you think it got that way by having high professional standards for its employees? I doubt it. At least former students who feel insulted and treated poorly get to know that they will one day soon close their doors.
