PTO and Wellness at Risk

I saw an internal email about discussion of not paying for accrued PTO or Wellness by September. It is best to take it now if you have any.

Faculty subs for each other all the time for Online. No FERPA violations with that. Now with the unpaid time off, we will be doing it more and for longer. The only concern amongst faculty is that they are taking a week unpaid but then have to do extra duty other weeks to sub for others without extra money for doing it. CcI wins. Faculty loses.

CCi has a systematic inability to understand FERPA. One of their senior leaders even believes that identification if Directory Information means we are publish a student directory. This is what happens when you fail to hire educators in a college. I'm not surprised that someone genuinely believes there can't be a substitute in an online class because of FERPA.

Everyone talking about even being able to USE your PTO, consider yourself lucky that you even have this option. Get ready for this: FULL TIME ONLINE FACULTY ARE NOT PERMITTED TO USE PTO DURING THE TERM. According to admin, this is because "Compliance" will not allow us to have a substitute enter our course because it could be a possible FERPA violation. (Which makes no sense.) On top of this, there is no way to pay another instructor for their time subbing. On top of THAT, the policy is now that Full Time Faculty can only use their PTO on days in-between terms, and only in two-day increments. No family vacation for you, FTF. Make sure you do your outreach though.

You know what the sound of nails on a chalkboard? Continually using the word "loose" when you mean "lose". God, I hope those using it are not faculty.

My director told me today something along the lines of take my PTO while I can and use my wellness days. Should I get laid off, cci is not paying out vacation time.

That January 2013 change was announced in December 2012 with what about 10 days notice? Then the 2013 employee survey suggested people didn't like it. Imagine that.

The first vacation reduction was January 2013 when they reduced maximum accrued time. I was reduced to 160 hours maximum and at the time I had 300 hours accrued. I accrued no time until I got it under 160 hours. I had my vacations already planned for the year but had to cancel and make changes when in May we were told we had until June 30th to get under 160 or loose the rest. So, the vacation theft has been an ongoing thing since January 2013. Anything this company does from here on out won't surprise me at all. Thankfully healthcare is negotiated for an entire year with the health care providers and can't be changed or we would be loosing that next. I guess we will all be loosing it when the shut down.

So, we should have begun to worry back in March?

Anonymous25739- You didn't have a big bank of stolen time. I actually lost a week, since I earned the time before the first reduction. That's 40 hours of pay--poof!

I don't get all this talk about not being paid for accrued vacation. Unless you're from California CCi took our accrued vacation time away in March. They switched it to plain vacation time and it is not accrued. That way you have not earned the time it is given to you and if you don't use it you loose it at the end of the year.
