Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

What is the Platinum Professor initiative? Someone referenced it on another thread. I'm a FTF for Everest Online and never heard of it.

It was mentioned as a means for getting rid of bad instructors and possibly, for choosing who the skeleton crew of instructors will be.

2467, sounds like it's only ECPO. Intelligent Heart training was ECPO and maybe ECP campus as well. Intelligent Heart was a stupid training that was supposed to make us be better at our jobs. But it was a pile of gobbledygook crap that was recycled junk psych science from the late 80s/early 90s. They spent a lot of time telling us how important they were followed by a series of videos that were so outdated I laughed out loud. During calls, I felt like an outcast. Everyone was 'on board' and sucked up about loving it. It ended with us all supposed to be doing affirmations daily. Affirmations!!! Honest to goodness! Affirmations. They never once mentioned students or connected the training to our careers or students. It was stupid. But we got our Professional a Development for the year. Fat lot of good that did. The next term, the poop hit the fan. Affirmations, my caboose!

I'm OP and yes, I'm with EUO since Fall 2013. Have not heard of Intelligent Heart either. Maybe it's another rollout? Lack of consistency has been an ongoing frustration with this organization. And to try and measure results like GA when different programs/divisions, even verts within same division doing different protocols? Unbelievable.

56, I'm ECPO and we have it. If they haven't told you, maybe it's not implemented for you. Maybe it's departmental? I don't know, and I don't know what their point is. I signed a contract, somI keep to that. This is above and beyond, so I strive for that, too. I know many instructors on this board have said they won't do Outreach. I do. I also try my best to work with students who want more of my time. And I spend more than average time in the threads, because I enjoy interacting with students. I don't care what everyone else is doing. I'm giving 109% to my students who ask for and feel they need my help. And I like the students who choose to participate. It's my choice of careers, so why wouldn't I do my best?

55, are you with EUO? If so, that might be why. EUO and ECPO have a lot of policies that are different. The Skype rrequirement being one. Otherwise, it could have been just new FTF that were hired this year that were trained on the Platinum Professor stuff. And the God awful Intelligent Heart.

Thanks, 50. I appreciate the response. Just never heard of it until now. I wonder why it's not something we were told about. That's doesn't seem quite fair, but why start now. We hold these SOS ("save our students" for those in other departments or divisions) meetings daily (yes, daily!) that have a variety of topics. Mostly it's do more, do better, do what works. Yes, thanks, we are. But admins certainly could have mentioned this PP (peepee?).

26349, I'm the one that referenced Platinum Professor earlier today, and I DID use the word initiative. Platinum Professor is the BS training ECPO FTF (perhaps just new hires) had to go through just recently. It's how they tell who is just doing the bare minimum and who is "excelling." I.e. you will get "Platinum Professor" status (which means nothing really) if you respond to all emails within 24 hours instead of 48, respond to EVERY post in the threads, etc. My point in bringing this up was that I'm wondering if it will be used as a way to slow!y start chipping away at the FTF who aren't excelling. Just a thought.

It's true. It's a program for professors who do their jobs and then more. It's new this term for ECPO. I don't know the reason or purpose. But they are definitely tracking our performance carefully.

It's true. ECPO is doing it. And it's probably is to track who is doing their jobs or not. But all those instructors refusing to do Outreach have nothing to worry about. Probably.

It probably is going to help decide skeleton crew, OP. It's probably in response to instructors who've decided not to do Outreach. They won't make it. But there's more to it. You have to do your job and go above and beyond. Basically what a respectable college would expect of you!

The only reason I "know" is because I read it on the threads. I don't have any details which is why I asked. I've never heard the term or seen it in emails. It really doesn't make sense why they'd rollout anything new. Short of driving to students' houses, instructors have done all they can. Which is why I wondered if a, it's true, and b, if it's used to eliminate rather than motivate. Although I am motivated not to be eliminated ;)

Earlier someone suggested it was like an instructor PIP program - get it and save your job. Don't and make the layoff list.

I haven't hear of this program, but I'm sure something is in the works. I have a feeling it will be based on how many students we keep

I'm OP. Got cut off. They're watching me, ha ha. So what I was adding at the end was is it also a way to decide for FTs who will get cut?
