I left Follett for a job @ B&N. Less money, but more stability. Store staffed adequately to get work done. I'm paid hourly instead of on salary, so I have a better work/life balance because I'm not expected to work more than 40 hours a week to compensate for letting go all our good full timers and fewer part timers. We're doing great business, unlike my last Follett campus. Home office initiatives actually make the store better instead of being of no value or a waste of time as at Follett. There's talk of acquiring more contracts, but moving carefully to find profitable ones, unlike Follett which went out to grab contracts with no regard for the situation. All in all, B&N College is a much better company with happier employees, and its home office people have been in place for a very long time. Follett is run by people who have no experience in the industry and no experience in the stores. If I were still at Follett, I would still be miserable and fussing on this board all the time. My advice: Get out. Now. If you want to stay in bookstores, move to B&N or Texas Books.

I think that the difference may be how Follett is treating their employees. It is not just the layoffs. It is also their attitude toward the remaining employees. It has reached a boiling point but they don't seem to understand that.

Geez, Do your own research, I was just wondering why B&N had so few posts and Follett has sooooooo many, if they are both "doing the same thing". A little touchy aren't you?

B&N is doing the same sort of cutting back that FHEG is. Nebraska Books did the same thing. The business of selling books is shrinking. Deal with it. Get over your personal situation. If your job sucks, move on.

I certainly wouldn't base investment decisions on posts on this board.

The previous message I recall was if B&N was a good investment because of the lost of all the personal expertise at operating bookstores at Follett. The answer to that is yes, B&N also doe not have their Network department thinking they have all the know how without previous experience thinking they can do a better job than everyone else. On the other hand for investment purposes Pearson has had continual steady stock growth and developed multiple channels of useful applications for schools with an established customer base of both schools and students without the need for B&N or Follett.

Between mass layoffs, repeated benefit cuts, lies and abusive behavior by management morale throughout Fullest is very, very low.
