Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

My experience as an admissions rep for Corinthian College school.

I worked for a Corinthian college school back in the early 2000s as an admissions rep. We had high enrollment quotas. If these quotas were not met we would be let go. As a result we had no choice but to overstate or exaggerate job placement rates to get the enrollment contract signed.

It wasn't about the student. It wasn't about paying our own bills, and taking care of our own families. When it comes to survival (paying our housing, food, car payments, clothes for our children) as human beings, we will do whatever is necessary, including lying to prospective students to ensure our own survival.

Yes, admissions reps and Corinthian management will state that they genuinely care about the students and enjoy helping people reach their goals, but this is just part of the sales pitch that has to be told to the public. It's the whole "perception is reality, not necessarily the truth" component of a sales pitch.

Until Corinthian changes how they motivate/compensate their admissions reps then students will continue to get lied to in order to reach enrollment goals.

**On a side note, disabled adults, single moms and the whole "entitlement" group that consisted of a majority of minorities, welfare recipients and high school drop outs were our sales prospects. Their chances of getting into a "real" college or having a "real" career were impossible given their current situations. They had no hope of ever improving their lives. However, grant money and govt-backed student loans combined with the lenient enrollment requirements of a pvt vocational campus like Corinthian College's schools made this the target market. These people were so desperate that they would believe anything they were told with regards to how much better they will be after completing one of Corinthian's programs.

Don't live out of your means! Trying to keep up with the JONES's!! I have seen Admin Reps rolling in dang luxury cars, so what do you mean you had no choice.

Wow! Several years and "many" of your students graduated. Uh huh. One thing's for sure 100% of the students' lives changed. Either you are in a rare pocket of ethical behavior not affected by the quotas and incentives, or you are a troll.

I've been doing admissions for several years and I have seen many of my students graduate and have careers now. Their lives have changed as well as their families, and in the end, society. Maybe you had to lie to your students to get them to start school because those were the only skills you really had- "lying". You didn't have the skills to be a "real" Admissions Rep and then you were probably let go because of your poor attitude and performance; or you probably left because they were on your @SS; and now you want to bash what we do and act as if we don't care about our students and lie to them in order to get them to start school- how dare you!! I never had to lie or did I ever lie- I polished up my skills and take my job very seriously. I truly do believe and know that we are changing lives every day and I (and many others) am doing it ethically. BTW- what's your level of education? I'm just curious.
