Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Can anyone tell me what strength this company has?

Does it have good customers? Loyal workers? Workers that have been with the company for a long time? Good customer prospects? Strong profits? Good leadership? Instant access to Title IV funds? Forget ED for a moment, what is keeping the place together?

It's not a for profit problem? - Well, only for profits do it because it makes them $$.

You finally got to the core: Put more strict guidelines in place and make it what it used to be. 87000 people (plus their families) will be in a place NO ONE wants to be and all because of upper management greed and mismanagement of funds.

Who keeps it together? The students! The workers that believe in education and that every ONE has a right to it! The teachers! I do believe there should be stricter enrollment guidelines but every one does have the right to try. Working in the FA department the last 3 years has given me the 'eyes wide open' when talking to students about their financial future when it comes to student loans. The DOE should be stricter on students who school jump to live off stipends and not obtain credits. It's a pattern and should not be tolerated. I cannot tell you how many times I have had the conversation with students who are near their aggregate loan limits, 12 schools and no credits - what is going to happened when they reach it, how much the payment is and that they have nothing to show for it. I have been saying for years that the DOE should strap down and make it a little more difficult for those patterned people to take out more direct loans. I personally do not have anything to do with THAT. This is not a 'for profit' problem, this is a country wide education problem. My EX started doing that while I was with him and it was a major reason why he is my EX. Going to school for the loan money and then withdrawing just at the point he would not have financial responsibility for the tuition. It is a common practice that is 'permissible'. Total crap! Now we are faced with all these students who have done this at any CCI being able to discharge/forgive their loans and then guess what, they will just start the process all over again at another school, and max their loans again until they can't go anymore. A vicious cycle that continues to be permitted- THERE is your student loan debt issue! I don't care what anyone thinks of CCI - remove upper management, keep your employees and allow the students to continue to their education. Put more strict guidelines in place and make it what it used to be. 87000 people (plus their families) will be in a place NO ONE wants to be and all because of upper management greed and mismanagement of funds.

Horrible job market. Many people have been trying to get another job but in the midst of Silicon Valley for every 1 job posting 300 plus applicants apply. If they see you have 15 years or more experience they won't consider you for they think you will ask for too much money. Been with the company 10+ years and have never seen anyone in my department or school! as for as us little worker bees, do any unethical. Most of us have our own morals and ethics and not even a company threatening you to do something wrong or questionable will make us do what we think is unethical. We love our students and the staff we work with. Not everyone at CCI is bad but I do honestly believe the bad apples are at the top of the food chain. We are simply trying to survive and do the best job we can possibly do with no raises, no incentives and really no hope. We come in every day and give our best to our students and our school. Most of us are honest, hard working people trying to support our families.

Fear keeps it together coupled with a horrible job market. Gotta pay the bills, even if it means putting up with shit these people deal out!

That is a great breakdown and question. CCI literally has NO characteristics of a successful organization..not one. I think street hookers in Harlem are happier and more secure at work than the average CCI employee.
