Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

My experience as an admissions rep for Corinthian College school.

I worked for a Corinthian college school back in the early 2000s as an admissions rep. We had high enrollment quotas. If these quotas were not met we would be let go. As a result we had no choice but to overstate or exaggerate job placement rates to get the enrollment contract signed.

It wasn't about the student. It wasn't about paying our own bills, and taking care of our own families. When it comes to survival (paying our housing, food, car payments, clothes for our children) as human beings, we will do whatever is necessary, including lying to prospective students to ensure our own survival.

Yes, admissions reps and Corinthian management will state that they genuinely care about the students and enjoy helping people reach their goals, but this is just part of the sales pitch that has to be told to the public. It's the whole "perception is reality, not necessarily the truth" component of a sales pitch.

Until Corinthian changes how they motivate/compensate their admissions reps then students will continue to get lied to in order to reach enrollment goals.

**On a side note, disabled adults, single moms and the whole "entitlement" group that consisted of a majority of minorities, welfare recipients and high school drop outs were our sales prospects. Their chances of getting into a "real" college or having a "real" career were impossible given their current situations. They had no hope of ever improving their lives. However, grant money and govt-backed student loans combined with the lenient enrollment requirements of a pvt vocational campus like Corinthian College's schools made this the target market. These people were so desperate that they would believe anything they were told with regards to how much better they will be after completing one of Corinthian's programs.
