Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Thanks To Those Who Tried to Do the Right Thing

Everest Librarian Laurie McConnell did the right thing. And now her story is told in the US Senate. How many others would be willing to do the same thing?...http://politicalnews.me/?id=29082

CCI doesn't care about student success, all they ever cared about was getting 89.9999999% of revenue from title iv. When held to account, they gave the ED the finger. CCs don't cost 20k a year to squeeze out of students. There is zero ethical reason CCI targets these populations the way they do.

I know that places like community colleges have to take everyone who shows up, so there would be no way to deny admission to illiterate or disabled students. Since Everest is private, couldn't they set a basic standard for admission? This would assure that only students with a chance to be successful would be admitted. This seems like an ethical approach.

"How am I supposed to know?" "They graduated High School." Admissions is pathetic. Just get them over to finance ASAP for that budget, right? Thank god they will be all fired soon.

It's is obvious that many admissions representatives are clueless.

14778 so denying admission on the basis of having a disability is not illegal??? I stand corrected. Also just how does admissions decide who is and who is not qualified? There is no test administered by the rep. I have no way of knowing if someone is illiterate. They graduated HS, they scored high enough on the assessment...should I have them read a book to me???

Enrollment only cares about numbers, not doing what is right. Thank god they will be shut down soon.

If a full grown adult cannot read or write past a 7th or 8th grade level, how can the person ever do college work in a hard subject like what I am teaching? It seems like for-profit and non-profit colleges are so eager to get bodies in the door that they never think about whether that student even has a chance. Don't they have high school night classes that are cheap or free and that would help students more than throwing them into classes where they can't do the work and that are funded by student loans?

It is not illegal to not enroll ANYONE. Every school reserves the right to select who attends and who doesn't.

It's not illegal to enroll someone with disabilities - in fact, it is illegal not to! The librarian made her choice to leave, probably because she has degrees behind her that will allow her to walk right into a new job. Maybe she was pissed because she didn't get a raise or nominated to Parthenon - whatever the case, we all can find something to complain about. No one asked her to do anything wrong, she was asked to tutor this student - possibly her own inability to tutor caused her to walk away yelling and screaming foul!

Former employees already stepped forward with documentation, I being one of them. The government already knows the inner workings of CCI and CCI confirmed them all by trying to stall the ED.

When the layoffs happen, there will be many people stepping forward with documentation of wrongdoing. It's just too risky to do that when you're still employed. If we're let go, especially if there's no severance pay, there's going to be motivation to get the creeps responsible for this fiasco behind bars, I can tell you that. If prosecutors are waiting for more ammunition for a criminal case, I don't think they'll have much longer to wait.

I listened to Senator Durbin and when he read that example of the man with a disability it made me so embarrassed and disgusted at my company. I am at the CSC in Santa Ana and through me time here I know people have submitted questions on why we spend so much on various things and we always received the email justifying why from the HR dept head. So after a while we just stop asking because we (I) know we cannot change the mind of the top people in operations. I ask today how did we get here can anyone at the top answer this - The pillars they really were meaningless. What is sad is some people do actually care.
