Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

As posted by Triblive

About 80 employees of Education Management Corp. were laid off on Tuesday, the latest in a series of cuts by the Downtown-based for-profit education company as it battles a decline in enrollment and profits.

Operations and support staff at EDMC's offices at the Strip District and in Green Tree were affected, said spokesman Chris Hardman.

“This is all part of our ongoing ability to maintain close alignment between our resources and market demand,” Hardman said Tuesday afternoon. “As such, we have to structure our organization to most efficiently meet the needs of our students.”

Employees interviewed outside the Strip District offices around 4 p.m. on Tuesday said they were unaware of the layoffs and declined to comment.

Agreed. The fiscal year ends on 6/30. Traditionally layoffs occur just before that.

Schools will be next, they have to get the students on the holiday break. The don't want them seeing their school staff and teachers being escorted out of these schools all across the nation. Plus they have to keep them in the dark, its there only source of federal income and this is a tax payer owned company.
