Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

How many faculty are leaving?

Out of curiosity how many ground and online faulty and adjuncts plan on leaving or not accepting new contracts at the end of this term?

If you stay, are you going to keep up with Talisma and phone students? I don't feel bad about teaching. But I do consider it unethical to continue to encourage students to come to class and stay enrolled just so they can continue to rack up more expense.

Is anyone in administration even keep track of those entries for purposes of our reviews?

Anonymous 15778: I completely agree with you. I thought about that after I posted. My comments were strictly for Everest. Thanks for pointing this out.

Anonymous15775 - Heald degrees are certainly not useless. We are regionally accredited through WASC. Students can transfer their credits to UC, CSU, OSU, Portland State, Washington State, etc...

Let's not lump the three entities together. They serve different purposes, and will be sold as such.

Really sad that you teachers are fine teaching students who have been lied to and are over paying for a worthless degree. I would love to see all the teachers leave so students can get refunds!!! Please wake up!!!

True. Very little drama in academics, compared to sales and financial aid and placement.

More than likely the academics folks will stick it out to the end. Many are on contract and just teach courses so they are not involved in the company politics. The allied health instructors will stick around because they make more money teaching than they would as medical assistants or massage therapist.

Why would the faculty leave? As long as the direct deposits are coming in, nothing really changes. Classes might be smaller, but so what? That's good.

I meant until I am told I no longer have a job. I would never expect to be told to do other than what I am contracted to do.

You can make fun of me or try to bully all you want. It will not change my commitment to my job.

"I will continue to do my best job until I am told otherwise" Yea, I'm sure your Dean will be telling you to do less than your best very soon. Comical.

I'm fairly new to the school, but this is the best job I've ever had. I love being student-centered and getting to help my students in a way you don't in a nonprofit college. I have enjoyed the support from my associate Dean. I'm contracted through the end of the term, and I will continue to do my best job until I am told otherwise. After that, if I were to be asked to teach more classes, I will be happy and continue to do so.

I know so many people are angry and afraid. But, I've worked through a company that outsourced most of it's business. I've also worked through a campus close for another college. It's a very difficult time.

But, I am a professional. If I make a commitment I will honor that commitment. We don't know what the future holds, but I intend to work this job until it is no longer available to me.

If they give me classes I will stay, but I hope the poster below isn't correct about everything staying the same. What has been done thus far is what got the schools into this trouble. I hope for a new corporate buyer of online and I hope they make dramatic changes. Start recruiting students who are actually interested and qualified to do college level work, I hope the create curriculum that actually provides the students with marketable skills, I want to be able to teach classes that I am proud of so I want to stay and I definitely hope things change with the new buyer. I also teach at other schools as an adjunct and I enjoy teaching. I just wish Everest operated more like my other (legitimate and regionally accredited) schools.

In our department, we have about 15 full time instructors, we are all committed and hoping to weather the storm. The summer schedule is being put together today, so we expect to enroll students for the July 15 start. We have not changed what we are doing. We have had about 3 adjuncts quit outright, and about 5 more say they don't want to come back....But, that's out of a hundred or so. The most sensible thing is to carry on. Everest online will probably be sold, and we'll have another corporate owner, but not much will be different, so why quit. I love teaching, love my students. I'll be here as long as they need me. On line teaching jobs are not all that easy to come by, you'd be nuts to give it up!

Lets face the music, DOE is on the verge of shutting us down, I don't care what they are saying on the 4th. Student Aid is watching the school, DOE is watching the school, and the Government is watching. But, what is a girl to do at this point, stand on the corner around the block just make a better pay check. Dear Jack, your pimping days are over. I'm tried of being screwed.

It's not a question of if you will quit, but rather when. Have you had enough yet? Do you want more? You decide. That said, I've watched the most qualified instructors slowly leave. The pace might get a little quicker. And what will be left?

Let's be real. If the campuses pull through this, most everyone will return. Ask yourself this, If you are assigned classes, will you just quit outright? It is human nature. Look at religion. Science can prove the foundations of religion wrong and expose it as a created by man fiction. People will still continue to flock to churches.

If they give me classes at my Heald campus I have to stay. I checked with local comm colleges and not much hiring going on. What options are out there?
