Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Ethics vs $$

Of course these are challenging times for employees that truly believe in educating CCi students. There are many lives that have been positively changed but there are also many that were not. These students who were allowed to enroll with an SLE score of 13 or below and who where encourages to sign an Opt Out of Tutoring agreement...really? These students should have been given remediation before allowing them to enter a program. While CCi enrolled students that could not get into traditional colleges, CCi also did not serve them the way they should have been. In many circumstances flack was given from the Campus President (CP) and RVPO if someone contested the admission/reentry based on SLE, academic history, and general conversation. If you brought up anything that could potentially drive the START away you were not a team player and chastised. Faculty members who brought these concerns to the CP were just told to work with the student, offer tutoring, encourage them to car pool, send them to the food pantry or clothes closet, buy them soap, get them a bus pass, etc. Teachers were told we are open enrollment and it would be against the law not to admit these students. When these students dropped it was because teachers did not provide a "Magical" classroom experience. Michael Stiglich was all about the "magic" in the classroom and blaming the teachers. When it was brought up that it is difficult for students who are homeless and hungry to attend school the CP would respond that when you have to remind them that school will change their life. First, how do you reach a student with no phone and no address. Do they even understand what it means to be hungry and homeless? How could you even focus on school? And of course, if the teacher provided a "Magical" experience then the student would be in class even though they were hungry. Really? Are we Disney? On top of this you have an RVPO Sam Lynn who is more concerned about the way the campus shows and goes around changing the classroom set-up to make it look better...well if you're trying to sell this would be the plan. The students and faculty hated the new configuration. The he is about stretching and burning out the few staff there by making them work long hours and holidays. When this was brought to HR, they responded we work 60-80 hours a week to...too bad too sad.

Yes! On the dot! Exactly what I deal with a day to day basis. "Be more entertaining" really! I am conducting a professional atmosphere while being enthusiastic when need be, but don't tell me to be more entertaining. I did not go to Clown School!

It should have been a pretty big clue when we started seeing people reach out to HR and either getting no response or getting canned. Anyone who has worked in a normal company knows that's not how it's supposed to work. People like MS have all the power at CCi. Actual educators, even at the highest levels, are little people for him and his buddies to mock and bully. CCi management is like a fourth grade playground.

Good, honest post. As a admissions rep I am uncomfortable with low SLE scores but I'm told "who are we to judge".... I have seen some of these students succeed while others have not :(
