Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

If you stay and teach, will you phone students as required and keep up with Talisma?

If you stay, are you going to keep up with Talisma and phone students? I don't feel bad about teaching. But I do consider it unethical to continue to encourage students to come to class and stay enrolled just so they can continue to rack up more expense. Is anyone in administration even keep track of those entries for purposes of our reviews?

I stopped calling students once the initial DOE announcement was made. I never agreed with this policy. Very few students actually benefit from it and most don't answer or return calls anyway. I think it only fosters a false idea about how the "real" world works and creates dependency in students. It doesn't "save" anyone but CCi management which is beyond saving at this point. I respect my students enough not to become their nanny. If they need a phone call each week to remind them to do their work, then they are not ready for college.

Students are supposed to call their teachers when they miss classes. You call your boss when you are late for work or miss a day, don't you. Why do teachers have to call students?

Calling students doesn't mean you care about the students.

I will not be making any calls or using Talisma. I feel like why do the extra work for cci? I will do my best for the students but not stupid busy work for the admin.

I have never called them and never will. Has gotten me into trouble but my retention is high because I feel and must be a good teacher. I have always thought it unethical to call and it causes problems. They are in college correct?

I'm going to encourage my students (online, Strategies for Success)to do their best and try to pass the course. Those who pass, I will encourage to continue at a community college, assuming that Everest disappears. I think this encouragement is justified because if they can pass Strategies for Success, they can probably be successful at a community college. They may have had failures previously, but it is likely they now have the maturity and ability to succeed in public school.
