Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

This is my true story

I was involved in a campus closure for a for profit. Three weeks into the term, it was announced. I never saw the president again. All employees except one finance dude and adjunct and Dean were let go that day. The Dean more or less disappeared after another few weeks. So, in the end, it was me, seven students, and the cleaning people. Doors were unlocked so students could smoke. I didn't feel unsafe with students because they felt as bad for me as I did for them.

Long story short. The school did not keep me on at their other campus or online, because my retention level was too low. But, they did me a favor, because the workload for students was unlike any alive ever seen. But to blame me for the low retention? Very professional.

There are no 'small time' for profit colleges. This was a direct competitor, with commercials on day and night, campuses across the country, and an online campus. I don't was to disparage, I just want everyone faculty to understand what I went through. It was very, very sad. The school's leadership disappeared, the other campus leadership didn't show up when they were supposed to to answer questions, and by the end, nobody bothered to ask questions about the closure. I knew nothing. I literally had no answers. The students were angry at first, then resigned. I was about to lose my job, so it was hard to stay motivated. But I signed a contact, liked my students, and fulfilled that contract. I educated them to the very best of my ability.

And then I was passed over by them for a low retention rate. The retention rate was low because they closed and out if 25 students, all but 7 stopped bothering to come. How was I supposed to motivate against a closure?!? They sure showed me. Via email, they told me I was not eligible to teach online because of my low retention rate.

I don't regret the experience. Unlike some of the very bad and nasty comments by others, I really liked my students a lot. They were smart, funny, engaging and good people.

I wish everyone who is appreciative and respectful of their jobs - the true professionals - the very best of luck. The employees posting with the nasty and rude comments, I wish you the best too. You will need luck to move on.

We have had 3 for profit campuses close in the metro area I love in in the last 2 years, including an Everest campus.

Really 15963 you think Cci is too big to fail? Hate to break it to you but they have already failed miserably. With CA fulling Va funding (am confident other states will quickly following suit) they have now lost another funding source. They are not going to be able to successfully pull off teach outs, there is no way they will be able to pay the bills. Student population will dwindle along with the active earning population but the rent and utilities will not....wake up and smell the coffee...the only shot any of Cci's employees and students have is if they are lucky enough to get sold.
