Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Have a heart people.

It amazes me how many heartless people are on here. Given you are on this website I am guessing you have been laid off. If not then you don't know how hard it is. What kind of person says "screw your job"? Several of us actually care about the students and employees who work here. Yes, there may be a few bad eggs but what company doesn't have those. How would you like it if you had no income tomorrow? If I lose my job I may very well lose my house. I have 2 kids and I am their sole supporter. I love my job, the students and the people I work with. It's people who have no heart out there that lump us all in with the bad egg. We are trying to do good things here and help students succeed. Learn compassion people! Is this really how we help each other as human beings? I get you may all be upset with the company and that is your right but when you say CCi needs to burn and be out of business tomorrow just remember there are a lot of lives that rely on those jobs and students who rely on the education. Before you post, remember to put yourself in the employee's shoes who are trying to do something good with this company and those who rely on the income to support their own families. Good jobs are not so easy to come by these days.

Sad, but true. For those who pretend to read minds... Baloney. I have more than one degree from over the past couple decades - all from REPUTABLE for-profits that are not going out of business or under sanctions. I worked in a different small for-profit college when a predator like CCI bought it for access to federal $$. It went south in no time. Those of us at the original campus worked for weeks to transfer students, keep them engaged and make transcripts available. The FBI raided the campus, locked down the computers, the records - released instructors and students - held conversations .... with management. The aggressive marketing model is not sustainable and not focused on education. It seeks more and more fresh student blood. As long as that biz model is allowed to continue this will continue to happen.

Yes the previous poster is right, your employment is a fraud and a form of money laundering so time to get smart - also Corporations are not people thus they do not have a heart or feelings.

Your "employment" is a fraud designed to draw as much federal money into the golden parachutes of CCI's management as possible. I'm glad that you're working with a positive attitude and trying to make a difference not because of, but in spite of the system. However, you need to accept what your job really is. Find another one. Every minute you waste defending your current position is one that could be used to find another and secure your kids' future.

Thanks for posting! Honestly, people hide behind their "Anonymous"... to post crap on here. Get on the job boards people and find a job and do something productive. Oh wait, you are already employed? THEN GET TO WORK!

I've suggested for the risk involved, Jack does not earn enough. I would not take the risks for his small pay.

"my husband died 3 years ago. Not all of us have the luxury of a second income." Life insurance? Survivor benefits from Social Security? Other family members? Keep painting the picture of how destitute you are, and how you plan at the same time.

I have read on this board people comment about how much Jack earns. I wonder, is that relevant really? Or is this class warfare of thinking one can only earn so much more than you before it becomes unfair and the wealth should be spread? I mean really isn't this much more about the government being very anti "for profit" for any company in this country but easy right now to target the "for profit" schools? I mean I have a lot of education which means as a result a lot of schooling costs. Never has any one of those schools helped me obtain employment, let alone obtain employment in my industry. I personally have been grateful for my full time job with cci, I have loved the people I am working with and I have worked at both public school and higher education institutions and there is always "something" or "some one" at any organization. I know the work I am doing, some of the instructional and life lessons to relay to these students because I want to make a difference. Do you know how many other for profit and non profit schools slam kids into class and simply just don't care? The people I have worked with at cci do care, it is a unique group...maybe that is just my department and my division and my experience but my experience has been overly positive. Perhaps some measures could be put into place to have better placement testing and remedial courses for those who need that but it is the state who determines if you should have an open admissions policy or placement testing required or if remedial programs are required etc. and now....now the state wants to scream that there is some big injustice because students get these student loans, can't find employment in their industry, and the placement rates reported aren't truly students in an industry that they otherwise couldn't have landed employment in.....is that the issue?? When I went to college every one of them told me all kinds of great things as to how it would change my life and the career path blah-blah-blah. I was told don't worry sign up for student loans and you will be in your industry and in a solid career. When all was said and done and I graduated, they waved goodbye and said good luck. Not career placement center working for him to try to help me land a job. OH...that's right I went to "non-profit" school for higher education so that makes all of those OK as long as the college isn't "profiting" it is OK. I see.

Anonymous 16244, First I do plan, but I am also realistic. I can not expect if I get let go tomorrow that I will have a job the following day. I know it will take at least a month or 2 if not longer. I had friends from here who were laid off 4 months ago and are still looking for a permanent job.

As for the other parent... my husband died 3 years ago. Not all of us have the luxury of a second income.

"If I lose my job I may very well lose my house." Let's discuss your planning for the future. Who buys a house under those conditions? "I have 2 kids and I am their sole supporter" What about the other parent?

I'm sure many members of the Third Reich loved their jobs as well. Doesn't change my opinions one bit. Sucks that you are in your current position. However, you have to be completely blind and naive if any of this is a surprise to you.

You are right on with this. I am hoping they announce the deals of the purchase today. We can then work with the new ownership group to spread the word of the good we do.

Having a heart is one thing. Seeing the hand writing on the wall is another. I wish things were different and everything at CCI was peaches and cream. That however is not the case.
