Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

A day in the life of an Enrollment Manager

9am – Show up to work.

9:10 am – Team where are we with recco’s and reg’s?

9:15am – EA approaches a manager with a concern, “Well, you know Shauna doesn’t have a computer, her phone seldom works, has really no transportation, but she really wants to take online classes though. I really love this student she is just so sweet. I really think that I can help her.” Manager response, “We need to make sure that we are setting her up for success so you really need to call her at three times in a week to make sure that she is posting.”

9:20am - Team where are we with recco’s and reg’s?

10:00am - Enrollment Manager logs into mypay to see his $125,000 paycheck.

10:15am - Team where are we with recco’s and reg’s?

10:30 am – EA approaches a manager with a concern, “Well, you know Tony is a convicted felon, doesn’t have a computer, he has to report to his P.O. and he has really no transportation, but he really wants to take local campuses classes to open a business one day. He really thinks that he can benefit from college after all he is 48 and a lot of street experience. I think that we can help save him! I think he is just so sweet. I really think that I can help him.” Manager response, “We need to make sure that we are setting him up for success so you need to schedule him for local campus class make sure that three days do not go by without voice to voice.” Great job, EA! You’re really saving lives.”

10:45am - Team where are we with recco’s and reg’s?

………. Management gets paid to be micro managers. They micro manage because they need those reg’s to keep their 100K paycheck!

Every Department runs like this now with "competencies" tied to recommendations, it's ridiculous how large of a Disconnect there is between upper management and the counselors that actually have to deal with all the changes they make. I feel like I work in sales except without the paycheck to match. If I wanted to be in Enrollment I would have applied for that.

One on one meetings, pressuring for reccos and REG students and if you don't give them numbers they want they micromanage and manipulate and tell you that numbers are not what they are after. Really? Why do you ask EAs to call students weekly to make sure they are posting? Why do you tell EAs to ask everyone they talk to to get reccos? Change or fail like COCO, and the others under the microscope. Managers make between 60 and 80 and never 100. They are idiots for God's sake and are used by upper management to harass the people who do the work. They will be fired in time.

You failed to mention how UOP Enrollment is now a call center! All UOP Advisors are nothing more than call service agents with overpaid micro-managers. I work out in Texas and its a day-to-day grind. I have to ask to use the restroom...I have to "out" my phone into a personal break and when I get back the manager has the gull to ask me where I have been. Next time I will take her in the bathroom so she can see me flush my shit down the toilet. However, advisors who produce 7-10 "regs" and double digit "reccos" are treated much differently. UOP is means to get to the next step.

OMG! This is so true!

My manager on average asks, "where are with recco's about 10 times in one day"! That is no joke! Also, the question is why aren't your students posting.

Management cares about students posting yet little regard to grades.
