Threatened with termination and withholding of severance if they talked negatively or spread "rumors"?

as someone in Admissions, I can tell you IT can pull an internet usage report to see where your individual computer has gone...There were times of low enrollment where the DOA pulled our reports and we had to explain our internet "surfing". It does not take long to pull either. If you visit this site from your desk, well...
Thinks he be Jack Bauer but is more like Austin Powers
Yup, Guy in IT is a fake. If he wasn't, he would surely have outed someone by now, right? Nice try, IT Guy.
Guy in IT isn't. He/she is mgmt. trying to intimidate you. (1) Why would they be wasting valuable resources tracking all of their employees online activity? (2) If you are on the internet, seriously, what are they gonna do? (3) No matter what the outcome of this, they don't want pissed off employees that they fired for being on this board when they were not even informing them if they would be paid while here this week (bad, bad press potential there). So do not worry and do not be bullied!
Oh, and to make things even more difficult for "A guy in IT," I connect to the student wireless network, and then I connect to my VPN, so he would see all the traffic going to a server in another part of the country. Since CCi has so much traffic, it's nearly impossible to track my browsing. It just looks like I spend a lot of time on a given server. Then thelayoff.com never sees my connection to CCi. Thelayoff.com only sees the VPN server. So I'm on the student wireless network with my own computer tunneling out to another server to connect to thelayoff.com. Track that Mr. "A guy in IT."
I'm not in CCi IT, but I can say what A guy in IT is saying is 100% possible, and I'm confident he's telling the truth. But it needs to be emphasized that he can only review traffic in and out of CCi. Also if you are on a computer that uses public credentials, then he cannot pinpoint the specific user, but he can point to the specific computer, if it is a CCi computer. If it's a personal laptop on the student wireless network, then it's even more difficult for him. Beyond that, CCi management is just mad right now. Like Mad Cow disease, in my opinion.
Anonymous17334 here is how it works your IP address in CCI network (1.1.1.1) fake IP but used as an example. 1.1.1.1 ----> Proxy (edge) server translates the internal IP address of 1.1.1.1 to the public IP 204.232.239.144 ----> Layoff.com. I sit at the private end and see which IP addresses are going to layoff.com and then do an internal IP lookup using the internal IP address. If you don't believe me read the link at https://kb.iu.edu/d/ahoo and pay attention to the last sentence "In some cases, they monitor employees' use of outside resources." Or you can just take my words and 15+ years of experience doing this. Your call
IT guy is wearing a wire. Think about it... Tasked with internal tracking...posting provocative subjects from phone. Im sure they are archiving posts.
If that's all it takes, I'm going to plaster news articles around the campus and tell every student whats going on...then I'll get my unemployment and out of this hell hole!
A guy in IT talks a good game, but none of it is true. The layoff.com site sees only one single external IP address for all computers at a campus. So while someone at the layoff.com could see that an IP address is posting from a campus to the site, no one could identify a specific computer. Nice try, IT guy.
Nobody needs to worry about gettting fired. As we all know it takes cci six months or more to produce a report. By that time there will be no one to give a report. And if they threaten to fire you. Call bull sh*t. It takes months to get approval from HR to fire someone and no one thinks cci will be around that long. So talk away, speak your mind and feel free to poke this dying dog with a stick.
A guy in IT should really suggest that he cannot tell who comes here, but rather, what CCi computers go are directed here. In other words, he knows the traffic in and out of CCi, but he cannot identify everyone here.
Meaning don't go to those sites from cci computers.
No matter what IT guys intentions are, no one should go to sites that could put you at risk. Just common sense.
What if I was tasked to do this and in the kindness of my heart I tried to warn others? I guess I only care for myself. I was just trying to help out others.
Seems like you would have better things to do than look at who is talking negative on this site. Fixing the servers that are constantly messing up and making it almost impossible to scan files or pull reports would be a good start. All anyone is asking for is CCi to be upfront with them and because they are being so secretive, people are scared and speculating. So, why don't you just lay off them and focus on your job.
"We at CCi can terrorize you in many ways!"
IT guy why do you want to get people riled up? Kind of punkass of you.
All that stuff "A guy in IT" is talking about only applies to a computer you used your CCi credentials at CCi to log into. The computers in the library cannot identify you specifically, since there is public access.
I would think that you are going to get a profound YES to this question.
Sounds like mob tactics to me. It's not insider trading. Just a message board. They are in trouble enough they don't need bad press of intimidating employees. Senator Harkin stood on Capital Hill and called them out for mistreating veterans. Don't be afraid to speak your mind. It isn't Nazi Germany.
Severance? Bahahahahahaha. It Be easier to get water out of marble.
CCI uses Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager which snags your IP, Computer name and the person it was assigned to. So if IP 10.10.10.10 visits this site the IP is caught at the proxy server. A simple ipconfig -a
A guy in IT always uses his phone to post :)
Just use any non-CCi connection.
As long as you don't post from a computer logged in with your CCi credentials, you're fine. A guy in IT cannot identify you specifically, but he could identify CCi computers, if he really is A guy in IT at CCi.
Told you all

Nope I only post as this.
Is Anonymous17276 the same person as A guy in IT?
nope, and even so, do you really expect any severance? lol
I tried to warn people yesterday but you all blew me off. Believe me now?
